84 Yamaha XT 600 E front brakes
G'day everyone
I'm new here and my first post is in "Welcome" section. Thank for the warm welcome too.
My front brake caliper had a seized pin (caliper slides on these two pins to apply pressure of pads against rotor). In my attempt to free up the caliper pin I broke the caliper holder so now I have a broken holder and the caliper is still seized (most probably unusable from what I can see) By "holder" i mean the bracket that holds the caliper to the lower fork slider.
My question is if anyone has a line on used front brake /parts for this model. I have checked most on line parts sources but the part number for the assembly shows "discontinued" and no numbers are given for individual parts.
I can post dimensions shortly. I would be open to an entire front end off mid 80's XT 350 as I know they bolt right on. I may even "Motard" the whole bike but I'm running from the cost atm.
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: 84 Yamaha XT 600 E front brakes
Fast reply... thx
The problem is Number 21 on that list is what I need and it isn't represented. That's because it's discontinued although some poor dealer somewhere in the world probably has one gathering dust and wishing he could sell it.
I did find the oem part number for that #21 and I'll try to dig that up.
I'm not 100% sure but I think the Yamaha ZX550 Vision carried identical front calipers, but I don't think there is one of those on the island so it's hard to check from here.
The shipping part is covered as it just has to go to Brooklyn NY USA and my shipper there can get it to me in 2 weeks by boat. I order rolls of drive chain that way over the internet.
Thanks for the response... gives me hope

The Vision was a terrible seller here too so it's almost impossible to find one.
I think your best bet is to post on a dedicated XT600 forum to see if anyone has any connections.

Hey, don't be scaring him off to another motorcycle forum...HYPERR wrote: Did you post on the XT600 thread at ....?

Wheatgerm - You are most welcome for the warm welcome! At Total Motorcycle, we do things differently, it's called being friendly to each other...haha

With the parts, check on BikeBandit they should have parts in stock, if not, eBay is your friend.

Don't worry about scaring me off.. this forum seems great and will be my jump off point for all bike related stuff.
I think that E Bay may be my best bet. Thanks for all the tips. I'll post back the results as I get this bike repaired and back on the road.
For whats its worth, an OEM Kawasaki KLR650 2008 stock muffler bolts right on to this 84 Yam XT 600 perfectly.
Thanks again and ride safe.

Re: 84 Yamaha XT 600 E front brakes
Hi again
For what it is worth, I procured an old Yamaha TT500 and used the whole front end. It's a drum brake system but makes it mobile as my hunt for the original caliper continues. The things we do to ride, eh lol.
Regards
