Honda motorcycle bullet-proof reliability or just a myth?

#1 Unread post by totalmotorcycle »

Poll: Honda motorcycle bullet-proof reliability or just a myth?

We have owned 4 Honda motorcycles in our past (myself 3, my wife 1) and every Honda (we are talking about 4 1980's Honda's here in 1994, 2000, 2001 and 2002-06) all started up and ran without issues. Makes you wonder if Honda's really are the most bullet-proof motorcycle....

Opinions?

Personally from what I've seen they're about average...
As long as you take care of their electrical systems they tend to run without problems just like any other bike. The stator is usually what fries on them though. And that seems to be Hondas of any model.

Of the big four they tend to have the best build and component quality. Each model has it's own quirks but it's much better than the suzuki's I keep buying. Even with my favorite bike, the V-strom.

I can tell you that my 1978 Honda GL1000 Bobber started up and ran just fine without any major problems even before I took it to my favorite local shop and told them to fix whatever needed fixing in the engine. $1500 later it runs even better. Carbs got rebuilt and re-sync'd, a lot of the gaskets got replaced, and a few other normal maintenance type things. Lots of parts cost in there to rebuild a part that had been removed for who knows what reason. I think it was originally where the tachometer cable came out, but whatever it was, it was leaking some oil right onto the exhaust header. Next big expense for the FrankenWing will be new fork seals and new brake rotors front and rear. Might even figure out some sort of exhaust for it so I'll actually have some back-pressure at lower RPMs.

I have a 2004 CBR600RR that I bought new and it has 12K miles on it. The only things that were replaced were the left rear turnsignal bulb and the tires at 11K. Everything else is original including the battery, and the chain which still looks almost brand new with virtually no wear. The bike looks and runs like brand new. :motorcyclelove:

I definitely believe that Honda's are bullet proof... after speaking to many in Canada & the UK. :)
