I know, they could be selling a lot more. I used to work in building materials, for a concrete company (so our focus was concrete). Everyone was shocked when they came in looking for these industrial oil cleaners, and we always asked if they had tried Dawn yet .

Yeah, used that stuff as a wire pulling lube in an emergency, bad idea, ate right through the insulation and shorted the wires out.
Try Lestoil in the washer, it WILL work, but hard to find these days. If unable to locate, then try Pinesol, only 10% as strong but might work. As a little kid painting models my brothers and I would use Lestoil to clean our brushes when out of paint thinner, worked great.

You probably were not using oil based paints on models, he needs something that targets oil. Maybe you were, but I thought most model paint was acrylic.

I'm not sure model paint has changed a lot in 45 years has it?
I had a bag of paint probably that old I used to use to paint my face for in soccer games... pretty sure it was acrylic... but then again not sure if it was model paint. Lost my eyebrows to that paint more than a few times .

If we are talking oil paints, I used to (rarely) paint with Oils and used turpentine to clean my brushes. But I don't know if I'd add that to a washing machine. :doh:
Face painting and loosing your eyebrows...that's funny!
Whatever it's base ingrediant was it wasn't water soluable that's for sure. And the paint came with paint thinner to clean the brushes. Turpentine, Pinesol, and Lestoil are all pine based products and all remove petrolium products amazingly well.
