Re: Waving at people on scooters
Now that other post makes sense. Marvin, dude calm down. If you wave like that to people it's no wonder why they think your annoying.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Am I being dumb ~ do you guys actually wave with arm/hand? Here in UK we usually nod and/or incline head but not to scooters.

The nod, I call it. No, we wave with our hand. Kind of lift it off the left handlebar and point at the other rider.

I wave at everyone unless doing so would result in imminent death (like when removing a hand from the bars would be bad
). Even across a freeway median (if we are in adjacent lanes at least).
What about cops? I had a cop wave at me I am pretty sure and I was stunned, but I would wave at them anyway (on bikes). Was just talking about this the other day with my dad and his buddy (both bike cops).

That's just your British air of superiority and innate reservedness showing.mogster wrote:Am I being dumb ~ do you guys actually wave with arm/hand? Here in UK we usually nod and/or incline head but not to scooters.

I kid, I kid... or I'm "having a bit of a laugh" as you say. But I did notice when I was stationed in Germany that most European riders do the head nod/finger twitch thing and rarely wave unless they know you personally. What I liked, though, was that everybody acknowledged you regardless of what you or they were riding. We colonials have a lot to learn in that regard.

I do sometimes, if it looks like they're just riding for pleasure. Hardly anyone waves back.
In general though, if you happen to ride in Asia and wave to everyone on a scooter, your arm's gonna start hurting real quick.

Scooterists around here rarely wave back, but I think it's just because they're in shock that someone on a motorcycle acknowledged them!Grey Thumper wrote:I do sometimes, if it looks like they're just riding for pleasure. Hardly anyone waves back.

Re: Waving at people on scooters
The cops wave cause they want to make sure you are aware he's there. I noticed that cops always make extreme eye contact with me when I am riding a motorcycle, its his way of finding out if I am drunk or high and I am not going to do anything crazy on my bike knowing he is there, and he seen so many motorcycle wrecks he's watching out for my saftey, and or, he also rides a motorcycle and he is aware of all the blind car drivers that are ready to run you down.JVRR wrote:I wave at everyone unless doing so would result in imminent death (like when removing a hand from the bars would be bad). The cops wave means slow down and ride safe.
