Perfect scooter engine cc size...
What do you think the "perfect" scooter engine size is for everything YOU want a scooter to do?
Maybe your a scooter commuter, a scooter tourer, a scooter day-tripper...

Re: Perfect scooter engine cc size...
I've only ridden a 125 Riva, so I can't really speak to the larger displacements. I've heard they ride nicely, though, so the engineering sky is the only limit.

Re: Perfect scooter engine cc size...
I voted 50cc.
Do they actually have scooters under 50cc?
If I was going to get a scooter, 50cc is what I would get. The perfect size for bopping around town solo and light enough to lift up and place(park) anywhere.

250cc. Big enough to keep up with highway traffic, but still small enough to be lightweight and high gas mileage.

I'm with jstark on this one. I've ridden a 250cc and it had enough power to not feel like a slow loser. (did I just say that? sorry!)
I see pizza delivery guys putting around on the tiny 50cc scooters here around London and they typically ride right near the sidewalk so the cars can pass. How embarrassing!

I say 250. I ride hard and if I want more power or speed then, gedda bike. I want my scoot to have enough to have fun, get me there and be reliable. I have the Grand little (Vista) 250 and could not ask for more. I really do not want a more powerful scoot. I can see the attraction though

Re: Perfect scooter engine cc size...
I installed a cup holder (Kustom Kaddy #500) on my Tmax, with my left hand free I can ride down the road at 70 mph drinking a cup of coffee (with an aftermarket windscreen keeping the air off me) no wind noise, I can hear the birds singing in the trees.
I can stop at the grocery store and fit 7 bags under my seat and in my added Shad Top Case.
Scooters are not for everybody, scooters are meant for low cost transportation, but I bought one for comfort for long touring rides, I accept my scooter doesn't belong on poker runs, riding with HD's, other bikers laugh and point at me on my scooter, I don't care! I bought that scooter to impress me, not them.
If anybody is looking at buying the Yamaha Tmax, Suzuki Burgman, Honda Silver Wing, don't buy it! You guys won't be able to handle all the people making fun of you and your scooter, your riding friends won't want you riding with them cause it will embarress them being seen in public riding with a scooter, you'll be rejected to ride on poker runs cause they say its a saftey concern cause your scooter won't be able to keep up, guys riding crotch rockets will always want to race you, strangers will walk up to you just to make fun of you, they will say the only reason you own a scooter is because you can't ride a real bike with a clutch, its no use telling them you own other motorcycles with a clutch, they won't believe you, they will lable you as an unexperienced beginner that can't ride.
I have learned from past experiences how to handle people, now when a stanger walks up to me with my scooter, before that stranger even opens his mouth and says anything I say " F YOU a-hole Get The F Away From Me" !!!
I suggest to anybody "Don't Buy A Scooter"!

Re: Perfect scooter engine cc size...
I agree that this is the right mind-set, however EVERYTHING else you say in your post seems to contradict this. If you like the bike enjoy it. No matter what you ride there will always be someone with a negative opinion of it. You really need to get over it and enjoy the ride.Marvin wrote:I accept my scooter doesn't belong on poker runs, riding with HD's, other bikers laugh and point at me on my scooter, I don't care!
