Re: Song Title Game
I'm going to break from protocol here for a sec -- forum protocol not mine
I did a partial search of my "portable" music for "been" when I thought of the Barenaked Ladies tune, to give it a listen before posting, and came up with these other "been" tunes:
Ive been a long time leaving -- Paul Curreri and Devon Sproule
Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) -- Jimi Hendrix
Should Have Been Loved -- The Proclaimers
Since I've Been Loving You -- Led Zeppelin
The piano has been drinking -- Tom Waits
Technology takes the fun out of the game maybe or changes the fun...

Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard -- Paul Simon
Tom Waits is like a working man's Leonard Cohen. Masculine rather than Cohen's feminine style. Maybe almost like Jimi Hendrix vs. Eric Clapton. Less cultured, more natural, gritty, flawed, and 'honest'. He doesnt get the same respect as Bob Dylan or Paul Simon usually.
I also grew up listening to lots of early rock and blues, as all my brothers and sisters are older. So I developed a taste for different stuff and find good music in various genres... it just depends on the artists although some musical genre's can be pretty contrived; but there is lots of good stuff from jazz, classical, rap, soul, electronica, reggae, folk, capella, etc, etc., and then again if I have to pull out some "good country" I can always start with Steve Earle, or cross genre's and bring in John Hiatt, or some bluegrass or cross over into more bluesy or R&B stuff.
Nowadays there's a lot of great music, but some of the stuff made years and years ago is still some of the best, like an old Norton, Ducati or Harley-Davidson. It crosses vast cultures and generations... Existential.
anyway, i best stop yabbering...
I discovered him via listening to Primus or Les Claypool's solo albums, and an older friend who likes his stuff a lot --pretty awesome-- fun, lots of truth, insight and soul put into it... like that 'drunken piano' song.Johnj wrote:You listen to Tom Waits?

Re: Song Title Game
Rather than a break from protocol I think Quiet Monkey has hit on a way of making this game more interesting. If posts include a little biog on what the song means to you or reminds you of it might lead to other discussions.
