can anyone tell me the difference between a r6 and 600r?

#1 Unread post by freebird73 »

I recently purchased my first bike Yamaha yzf 600R. After I purchased it i started to find all this advice on how i should have gotten a 250 (oops too late)

I LOVE this bike, my husband has been riding for 10+ yrs and he stays with me on back roads and main streets which is very comforting. I am not a hot dogger or feel the need for speed kinda girl...

I am just curious what is the difference between the 600r and an R6?

Hi Jessica,

:welcome: to the community! Please take care riding a 600cc sportbike, as you said, it's not an ideal first bike at all.

Yamaha even stats "The YZF600R is not intended for novice or inexperienced riders."

The YZF 600R is a milder version of the R6, built using the previous version of the R6 so it's more "rider friendly on non-track conditions" but you have to still be very careful with it.

This should answer a few questions here: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2 ... yamaha.htm

Check out your handlebars. On your bike the handlebars are attached to the forks above the triple trees, whereas on the R6 it's below the triple tree, giving you a slightly more comfortable ride. Your rearsets (pegs) are also lower, further increasing the comfort.
Your engine has different cams in it leaning more toward the lower end and middle RPMs versus the top end rush of the R6.
IIRC you still have carbs whereas the R6 has been Fuel Injected for years now.

Thank you for the clarification, as I said I love the bike. I think the only problem I has when looking at the 250 (and i know you know all the excuses) was when I looked at the reviews, it said it was awful on the frwy, too light. I live in a place where if you want to leave town the frwy is the only way out. Fire and snow will trap the whole community, sometimes for days, and i would like to leave town eventually.

Huh weird... Wish someone had told my sister it was too light for the freeway. She wouldn't have done daily runs up and down it for school!
