The Versys gets bigger brother for 2012. Answering the demand from riders looking for a dynamic machine in this category, Kawasaki now takes another bold step in the multi-purpose market with the new Versys 1000.

Created as the long-awaited big brother of Kawasaki’s mid-size any-road street surfer, the new Versys 1000 is designed to enable the greatest riding enjoyment in the widest variety of street riding situations. Whether riding solo or two-up, around the corner or around the globe, its unique combination of a highly responsive In-Line Four engine tuned for flexibility, and a nimble chassis fitted with dynamic suspension will answer the evolving needs of many existing Kawasaki customers and look set to draw others to the brand for the very first time. With the Versys 1000, Kawasaki extends its any-street promise to the litre-bike class.

Liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve 1,043 cm3 In-line Four with a bore and stroke of 77.0 x 56.0 mm offers strong low-mid range torque with smooth power delivery. Compared to the Z1000, the engine delivers a stronger low-mid range with a slightly reduced peak power. Both peak power and torque occur at lower rpm than on the Z1000.

Rider & Passenger Comfort

Thickly padded seat (about double the cushioning of the Z1000 seat) provides the comfort to enable hundreds of miles in the saddle. The rear seat has even deeper cushioning, and is probably Kawasaki’s most comfortable passenger perch yet. Seat leather material was carefully selected and a great deal of effort was spent to ensure a good fit. The front seat uses different material than the sides and rear. A two-tone design is used on white models

This model caught all of us media by shock (I'm proud to say Total Motorcycle had it up before anyone else on the internet and with big photos too!). We do not know if it will be sold in North America but I'm sure we are all crossing our fingers here that it will be. IMO, I can't see why not as the Versys 650 has been successful here and the Versys 1000 ABS uses the Z1000 engine.

I don't like the looks that much (I did not like the looks of the 650 either) but, I still voted Awesome.

If I were buying a new bike I would get the Kawasaki Z1000 but, I think the Versys1000 would be an even better all around motorcycle.

Kawasaki makes great inline 4 engines and based off the Z1000 and the Ninja 1000, the Versys will have a great engine, plus traction control, comfortable riding position, and ABS.

I'm not a big fan of this style of bike, but I voted Awesome based on the bike itself and not my personal lack of desire for this style. I think the multi purpose bike is going to make a strong statement in the way of sales in the next few years as more and more people decide they want more use out of a single style bike rather than owning a bike for each style of riding they do. The only problem I have with these bikes is the sitting position and the seat height, at 33+ inches, my short little 30 inch inseam stuggles...

I like the style of the bike, the 650 is comfortable and the perfect height for me...I loved it except the motor was just a little shy on the power dept...but now with the motor from the Ninja 1000R (tuned for the touring & light adventure)...should be nice...



My buddy has one this exact colour...nice bike, but I missed the power of my bike...but it is hard to beat the torque of a big twin in a standard bike...

Almost forgot...Kawasaki Canada has the Versys 1000 listed on their site @ $13,999...same as the Ninja & Z1000

Cool all the way. I really like this style of bike; basically a standard/naked with a windshield. Available hard luggage makes it even more versatile. I still prefer the smaller Versys though; I like the power characteristics of twins (although I do understand the economics of using an existing inline 4 for the Versys 1000). Anyway, I think the Versys 1000 will still be a great rival to a lot of similar bikes that have been around for a bit; the 1000 'Strom is obvious competition, maybe the 1250 Bandit, bikini-faired Yamaha FZ1, and even the Honda CBF1000F, depending what country you're in.

I voted: Awesome.

It's about time the Versys offered a solution that could compete with the big dual sports and while I would love to see a V-Twin in there (or big 1000cc parallel twin) a inline-4 will do wonders for the road (not sure about off road though).

Well done Kawasaki! Just make sure you keep the price competitive.

It's mfugly beyond belief...

What is it supposed to be? It certainly can't be an adventure tourer as there is no way that thing can go offroad with its fully exposed male slider fork, no skid plate of anyform, plastic parts around the engine, and a humongous radiator fully exposed to be punctured by every debris that the front tire manages to kick up.
