Re: This Week - 2012 Triumph Sprint GT: Vote & Discuss
Just not a fan of the whole ST class in general. I stare at this thing and try to imagine it being a touring bike, and I just don't feel that. To make it useful for all but a day trip you have to have the trunk, and those things always look like a fat man on a diving board to me. Give me a beefy cruiser with a luggage rack for touring, and bonus, the people behind me can't see the underside of my boots!
All that said, I'll toss this a Cool. I'm sure it'd be a blast for canyon carving or eating up the straights alike.

Re: This Week - 2012 Triumph Sprint GT: Vote & Discuss
I'll give it a grudging cool, it's really a "meh" for me. Old basic design, Triumph's trying to squeeze out a few more sales. Nothing wrong with that, I guess. They're pretty bikes in person (compared to abominations like the Tiger Explorer).
Pegs are way too high for me, and I don't see any easy way to lower them. I can't ride around with my old man's knees folded up like that for very long. So I would never buy one.

Re: This Week - 2012 Triumph Sprint GT: Vote & Discuss
I sat on one of these in the show room about four months ago and found it quite comfortable. It reminded me of the Honda VFR800, sporty but all day comfortable. When Honda came out with the VFR1200 it was a little dissappointing...the bigger motor and extra power were great, but smaller fuel tank & shorter range were the trade off...doesn't make for a great touring bike. This Triumph seems to be the next step up from a VFR800, similar urgos, agressive styling (the VFR1200 is not that agressive looking to me) and a motor with character...it just ticks a lot of the right boxes for me...

kind of a meh bike...
kind of generic looking too, looks like a Honda Blackbird with BMW bags...
since it has the triple, I'll reluctanly give it a cool rating...

It is when you ride these triples that you really get a sense of how different they are. I am a boxer motor fan and the triple makes a brilliant crossover from total low down grunt and the high revving performance of the fours. Exactly what the bike was designed for is how it performs. Very little effort is needed to get the absolute best out of these bikes and if it is peace of mind that you want when you ride, that's is what you will get.
I think Triumph are doing a sterling job with the looks and the overall package, so a cool from me.

I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

I like the ST more, but I still have to give the GT an Awesome vote. It has that triple and it is lighter than alot of the new sport tourers.

I voted: COOL
I would have voted awesome as I really like the price for what you get and the 1050 engine is a very good powerplant. Heck, I even like the way it looks too. But I'm not a big fan of the almost 600lb weight and the claim "the new Sprint GT combines Sports bike performance" I just don't know, 600lbs and 128hp... doesn't seem very sport bike performance like if you ask me.
But hey, it comfortable, practicle with the luggage options and will get you to A and B in style and at a price that isn't bad. It's cool.
