2002 Honda CB919 problem can anyone help with ideas

Hello all

I've been having an issue with my motorcycle this past week, before storm Sandy hit the east coast I removed my battery and two weeks later I was putting it back on, but then I didnt have any ignition, lights or any power what so ever, the battery is fairly new, about two months since I bought it and I tested it and charged it, it was at 100% but still no power on the bike, so I put another older battery I still have and charged that one and still no power, I put the newer battery back on and tried to jump it with my car, and nothing, checked the fuses and all the lines every thing but I don't get what the problem may be. Fuses are fine..

Does anyone have any idea why I have no power and it just seems like its not passing beyond the connection to the battery, no brake lights or anything come on.??

If you have any idea throw them my way, at this point I'm willing to try anything.

I actually don't this is my second motorcycle I've owned and it's teaching me alot about the mechanics end of it but I'm still fairly new to it, I have heard of it, can I purchase one at the local parts store and may be try to use it?

Yep, you can buy one at your local auto parts store for pretty cheap. Check to make sure the battery has 12.5 VDC (volts of direct current) in it.

Are you sure you're putting your battery in correctly? If you put it in backwards bad things can happen quickly. Also there should be a main fuse of 30 amps in between the battery and the main fuse box. Check that using your new voltmeter (most have a function for resistance, when you put the leads of the tester onto the blades of the fuse, you should have very little to no resistance.)

I've been looking and reading thru some how to's online and its not really helping me much because nothing I've seen is directly answering my question, I mean I'm litterally getting no power out of the battery and I know it's at 100% charge. I've been looking thru some of the posts I've read may be the safety relay, I dont know but I'm going to get the voltmeter hopefully thursday and work in it and see what is going on, I will definitely use your advice and see, is it safe to use the voltmeter on the blades of the fuses and do you know what it should read?? what it it reads zero?

Do you know how old the battery is? (is it from 2002?)

While a battery can read 100% charge, it's the load that the battery might fail at, meaning as soon as it's asked to output electricity it just can't and fails. If it's a 2002 or even 2009 battery this can happen just from age. If it's newer, has it been left outside in the bike (ie, could it have frozen?), has it been subject to a lot of vibration or how has it been recharged (trickle charged at .5 amp or speed charged at 6amp?)

To be honest it sounds like you ought to have someone there that knows what they're doing to help you. I honestly don't mean that as an insult, because we all start somewhere.

If you have a friend with electrical experience, have them come over and help you troubleshoot what's going on.

The battery is fairly new, from August of this year (2012) and I've charged in on a normal charger that I purchased from Sears, not a triggle and I don't know of the amps it charges at, but last time I charged it, my charger just says slow, fast charge or another choice for a marine battery, don't know but I will check it out this weekend, I have four days to play around with it and see what the deal is, I just don't know what it would say its at %100 percent but then again, like you said it wouldnt have enough charge to start the bike? I mean, my brake lights dont even come on when I press the brake lever.

Yeah I'm going to try and do the trouble shooting on my own these next four days and if I can't I'll hopefully call someone that may be able to help me. but since the cold is here already I may just put it away permanently and deal with it later down the line but I just can't get why it was working fine two weeks before and now, I get nothing. and looking for some thing online isn't any help. I can't find anything in regards to what the issue may be or why the battery isn't giving any power when its fully charged. but I do appreciate all the advice every one has.
