The sport touring class strikes me as 'anti-image'.
I see someone telling themselves "I'm too young and techno-hip to ride some crusty cruiser, but yaknow, I wanna tour, so I need something that can carry my iPhone and my iPad and my iPod and my tablet PC."
It's like buying a Toyota MR2 for touring, and then towing a little trailer around with it because you wanna do some souvenier shopping while you're out.

I'll have to dissagree with you on this one...this bike is like having a bagger that can play with the sport bikes through the twisties (and long straights if you're into that...not a speed demon myself)
Comfort, weather protection, luggage, power, long fuel range...this is what I want if I replace my MT-01...but I do agree with the big adventure bikes...

That's what I like about them. You can be aggressive in the twisty bits without having to hunch over on a sportbike, plus you can tour on it. My next bike will either be a dual sport or a sport tourer.

Like a Road King for people who give a crap about aerodynamics. I'll give it a "cool". On a personal note, I'm still not a big fan of the style. Then again, anything above 1000cc just seems unnecessary to me. What'll you be carrying that needs that extra power?

Solid cool. I love sport tourers. They pretty much do everything you want from a bike. And their . . . "lack of cutting edgeness" appeals to me. They're not trendy or fashionable; they're unpretentious and honest, and just great bikes overall. I'd give it an awesome if it was a bit smaller though, like the old Honda VFR800 or BMW F800ST.

The FJR1300 has set the standard for open class sport tourers for a while now. Hats off to Yamaha for updating it. Bike misses Awesome because they still haven't given it a six speed transmission. Cool vote from me.

Good looks and it has a purpose, to eat big distances in quick time. Which is odd as usually "sport and touring" are two different sides of the coin, why rush around on tour/vacation? Shouldn't you be taking it easy, cruising on by rather the scenery, enjoying it rather than hitting the corners and getting from A to B in 2 hours less? Hummm, maybe it's a confused class (sorta how I felt with the Dodge Charger is it a muscle car or a family car?). No, I think I'd say if you are going to tour, get a tourer. If you want to carve corners, get a sporty bike. A 640lb is a big bike, which the Yammy is no doubt, but graceful? Not sure I'd want to ride this in the city either to be honest...
That said, not a bad bike for a tourer, but I'd grab a cruiser first to tour on and a city bike for sportiness. But overall, Yamaha has done an awesome job matching up the oil and water of it really and I do like it's looks.
