Symptom was clutch whine when in gear at a stop.

Next is it's 1000 mile service. :revv:

UPDATE: ISSUE FIXED! IT WAS A FAULTY OIL DIP STICK CAP!

Well, today I had an oil spill and for a bike, it was large. And had to get my bike towed back to the dealership as it left me stranded. Oil everywhere, on me, all over the bike (ALL over, even on the front fender and exhausts!)... now I bet you want to know the story...

Well, it was the best case scenario so that's the good news as it could have turned deadly fast.

I was riding on a 35mph road coming to a stop at about 10mph when tonnes of smoke came up from my engine. I looked down and saw my left boot and pant leg absolutely covered in oil! It was like someone dumped a bucket of oil on me and the smoke was everywhere! So, pulled off quick as the rear tire was quickly losing traction (oil soaked), shut the bike off and called the dealer.

I've been having issues with the oil dipstick rubber washer ring lately and the dip stick wasn't sealing properly causing a drip when I put the bike away after riding. The part has been ordered for the past 2 weeks but it should be in tomorrow (a day to late right?). I did change my oil and filter yesterday (@700miles) and tightened the dipstick up, and this morning before I headed out I checked it and tighted in right up as tight as it could go (I was unhappy with the leak so I have been checking that constantly).

Anyways, it seems the dip stick poped out on it's own causing a fountain of oil. I've never seen this before and thankfully I wasn't on the highway (like I was last night) and/or the bike didn't start fire (it was close) and I was able to stop without going down (I lost rear traction but going slow saved me).

I called the dealer (MPH Cycles) and they came out right away, picked up the bike, even washed it (it was still soaked in oil) and drove me home. Which was AWESOME! :D

Now I know they will fix it up right. I'm thinking it must be more than just the dipstick O-Ring and maybe a faulty dipstick (?). They guess it might have vibrated out in the 3-5 miles I rode.

More to come...

Yikes! That is awful. It doesn't give much confidence for MG.

The good news it will be taken care of, they do good work over there. And as I have 740miles on the bike I figured have it in for it's 1st service too since they have it (1st service is between 650-1000 miles).

If it turns out to be a faulty dipstick then that has to be rare and could happen to any bike really. But I still love the bike and the ride, just hope it doesn't happen EVER again of course. I'm happy that it didn't go up in flames and I'm home safe and sound. :D

Sorry to hear it bud - likely that it's just a fluke. It'll get better!

I have only had mine a few days, and now I am crapping it, thinking I have a bad bike on my hands.

Please tell me its not true!

I would stick pics up if I knew how to...any helpful hints?

Here is a close up shot of the dipstick on the Moto Guzzi V7 Stone:

I wonder how it popped out, hopefully I will know soon.

Yes, completely new. It is in the shop right now and I'll call today and see if they found anything out. :D

I have my fingers crossed. What gets me is I've never heard of a dip stick unscrewing itself and popping out and that I did just check it's tightness after going out on that ride too. I have a few ideas to propose to them to see if it does unscrew itself (like running the bike with a orange tick on it and the case and see if it moves or screw it in not so tightly and see if it moves kinda thing). I'm really quite concerned about it all as it is something I really can't see while I'm riding. I guess I could use Loctite on it! LOL

As High_Side said above, it is most likely a flukey thing. I've had some issues so far with the MG and I cannot deny this was the worse but I'm hopefull. They have only heard of this happening once on an old (70s) MG so that's really rare then. What I would suggest is to go out and check the dipstick is tight. If so, maybe put a wax marker line on it and the block (so you can wash it off later) and see if it moves at all. Other than that, the MG is an awesome bike and since your bike already has miles on it (how many?) being an ex-demo hopefully the bugs are all worked out. I just have 740miles on mine so I did expect some small issues (this and the cluch being big issues though).

I'll keep you up to date too mate. :revv:

As for posting photos you have 3 options.

1. BEST: Upload it to the TMW photo gallery: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/gallery/ then copy/paste it's URL in your post using the Img tag (like the bold, Quote or URL tag above). 250KB max

2. GOOD: Use the ATTACH a file option in your post (below you will see Filename and File comment, Browse and Add the file). Then click on "Place" in your message. 200KB max

3. OK: Use a 3rd party photo upload site, copy/paste the .jpg URL in your post (not the .html or .htm link). Unlike the other 2 above options you photo will expire.

Yes mine is an Ex-Demo, but it only had 250 miles on it, so I am well short of your figure so far. I will keep an eye on the dipstick now, just in case.

Thanks for the help with the pictures, once the weather clears up, from ruddy miserable, I will get some nice pictures posted.

I have to agree, only after 50+ miles since I picked it up, it is a very awesome machine. Roll on Spring!

Fingers crossed for yours.
