1983 suzuki 650 katana running problem
hi my 83 Suzuki 650 katana has been sitting for 6 years I have done a carb job and gotten a new battery now I am trying to start it. im guessing something shorted out.
but anyways I turned the bike over it started but only reved to 3000 rpm and shut down right away. now my head light and tail light work but my signals don't work my fuel gauge is shot to full and the tank is not connected atm my green neutral light and oil pressure light don't work. when I baught the bike all lights worked fine and also worked a couple weeks ago when I finished the carb job and then they all cut out exept for tail and head light and the lights behind the speedometer and rpm. when the lights worked first time trying to start it it started and revved to 600 rpm and ran for a good 3 minutes and stalled. has anyone had this happen to a similar bike? anyone got any suggestions? if anyone can help I would much appreciated it

Do you know how to use a voltmeter?

Ok then, get you a manual ordered. There will be electrical wiring diagrams in the back of it. There's also troubleshooting charts inside to help chase down those other problems you're having. Good luck.

Early 80's Suzuki electrics are some of the worst quality electrics unfortunately. They used cheap Hong Kong parts and at the time, they were awful and awful cheap too.
I had to wrestle with a 1978 Suzuki GS550E and one of the issues I found was a bad short causing a lot of issues... you wouldn't guess where the short was... in the turn signal! Take the lenses of the turn signals, remove the bulbs and check for rust between the bulb and the electrical connectors.

At least back then it was just parts from the British ruled part of China that plauged the rest of the planet as mainland China was still in the Stone Age. Now we are infested with POS parts from all of China as well as their despicable copies and ripoffs.totalmotorcycle wrote:They used cheap Hong Kong parts and at the time, they were awful and awful cheap too.

I was just getting an early start for Monday's work load and was working on more 2013 Benelli models. Benelli was purchased by a Chinese company and are now producing 3 new Benelli models (brand no longer sold now in USA/Canada, sry) and the descriptions are in horrible engrish and the models look like they are now typical Chinese bikes (ARGH!).
Just read the description of this one: http://www.benelli.com/eng/Catalog/Moto ... d-768.aspx or http://www.benelli.com/eng/Catalog/Moto ... d-758.aspx
Even the Benelli model descriptions are too funny like: "RIDING LIKE A BIG" or "EASY - FUNNY" ... A big what? .... Funny? Can you REALLY sell your bike saying its FUNNY!?
Check this out and I didn't make this up or edit it:
Oh, how the mighty Benelli has fallen.QuattronoveX has personality in abundance and is the 50 cc more sporting manufactured by Benelli, one of the scooter more loved by the young for its appealing design which reminds to the bikes of large displacement.
The sporting character of QuattronoveX cannot prescind from the safety on the road, one of the key values of the Pesaro make.
