Advanced riders course?

#1 Unread post by muz »

I only have 1 year of riding experience, so I'd still classify myself as a "new biker". There's lots of wetness behind my ears if that helps me qualify :P

Just wondering if anyone has any advice about taking an advanced riders' course, you know the kind where they teach you more defensive skills? I took the Canadian equivalent of the MSF a year ago, but now I'm wondering if I should take the advanced course on my own bike.

Is this type of course worth it at my level, or will I gain this same knowledge just by riding more?

thanx

I have several years of riding experience now and I'm just looking into taking one as it really is an "Advanced" riding course.

They teach you on your own bike how to brake harder (from 140km+), corning skills on a race track, and other advanced riding techniques.

I know some members here have taken it before in the -= Experienced Biker Forum =- but I would hold off as a new rider taking it for around 3 years of riding as less than that you are still learning the basics to become "second nature".

Nothing wrong with training, but you have to be ready for it. :D

I think I am going to wait a little longer too. I think it depends how many miles you have put on your bike too. If you have been riding for a year but only put a couple thousand miles on your bike I think I would wait. I hear about a lot of people dropping their bikes at the training.

This is my second year riding. I'm also looking into the advance course. Actually, I'm looking for something in between the BRC and the advance.
