It's been done before, but a very long time ago. I've always been slightly interested in a naked Gold Wing, even thought of getting a 1975-1979 one at one time. This one is quite interestingly... bulky.



Funny enough, it reminds me of the Suzuki B-King a little:

It has absolutely no resemblance to the Valkyrie I knew. I used to ride as a passenger on Doc's Valkyrie. It was so comfy from a passenger point of view. The one above does not look like it is very passenger friendly.

It also has lost the "cruiser" look.

I agree with you there,

I remember the previous generation Valkyrie quite well, a mechanic friend had one and loved it. This new Valkyrie I imagine due to the radiators is making it look more "riding in a bathtub" than a cruiser. Might be just too much plastic vs the old Valk.

Fail. You think Honda would have learned their lesson with the Rune, but no. Somebody had way too much caffeine and not enough sleep in the Design Department. This thing is fugly and impractical. And as Ms Blues has stated, it ain't no Valkyrie.

I remember Doc's Valkyrie, I rode with him for a few days when he came east in 2007. Tell him he needs to get online and come vote on this!

The legacy Valk looked like a Goldwing-based engine in a cruiser frame. This bike looks like a Goldwing without the fairing, a different thing. It does sort of remind me of the Rune.

I think if I was going for a huge, cruiser-like thing, I'd prefer a Triumph Rocket. Uncool.

Ugly but the more I look at it I like it, unique and great engine. I would want to put bags on it and maybe a rack or trunk, wait that has already been done. Cool.

Maybe it's because I come from a younger generation, but not having a sense of nostalgia for the Valkyrie nameplate means I can appreciate this bike for what it IS rather than what it's CALLED. That said, it only takes a quick glance at the current model GW to see the resemblance -- it's definitely the same platform and that, I feel, honors the Valkyrie tradition just fine. This is certainly a Valk, it's just a new Valk.

Now I've never been a fan of the GW, I think that's been fairly obvious every time the model has come up on The Wall. But this Valkyrie, I have to admit, I love. I'd have a hard time imagining a more perfect touring platform than this, albeit after the addition of some nice hardbags, and there's enough cruiser in there that my boots wouldn't look out of place. It's big and heavy, but the cockpit is uncluttered and the lack of a goofy front fairing allows those rad shrouds to look muscular rather than obese. There's no art in the engine, but it's more 'jet turbine' than 'dishwasher' and that's excellent. My only real aesthetic complaint is born somewhere in the mash between the saddle, side cover and fender -- the way those angles come together looks a little 1985 Ford F150 to me. Figured it out, it's because I'm used to seeing a chrome fender mount there and there isn't one. Anyway, a pair of hardbags would dress that area up nicely.

So the verdict -- as this bike sits, what it is and what it does, that's a solid Cool. But added to that is this; Big Red managed to get me to pull up a picture of a GW and find things in that rolling couch to appreciate. For that, I'm upgrading to an Awesome.
