I dunno reading the source article it looked more like he was trying to illistrate the GOVERNMENTAL inconsistancy between not allowing for circumstances in which it is right and proper to have a right to die, and then in the same week pass a law which makes it more likely that donorcyclists <grin> will die...
I dont think he had a beef with Bikers as much as he has a beef with the anti-right to die crowd.
He just seemed to be phrasing it badly, which is a problem when phrasing things is your job I guess...

Hop on a motorcycle and fill out your donor card, eh? Well, I'm an organ donor and have been since I earned my driver's license, but if I go out on a motorcycle, I don't plan on having anyone else able to use what's left of my organs.

Looks to me like Dickerson writes newspaper columns on the various forms of irrationality, stupidity and contradictory behavior that occurs in Michigan.

Guys like that like to pull chains. I think AMA needs to take a deep breath. My driver's license carries a motorcycle endorsement and an organ donor endorsement. Got no problem with the idea of someone besides the mortician benefiting from my dead body.

Sure, it's your life, and you can live it how you want. But up here in Canada my taxes pay for your healthcare. A helmet is a simple precaution, much like a seatbelt, that SHOULD be taken. I don't see why I should have to pay extra money because someone is not willing to protect themselves. Every person that crashes without a helmet takes away money from other important things, research into cancer cures, vaccines, aids everything.iwannadie wrote:ok your no better than the other guy. my decision to wear what safety gear i fill fit to wear is my concern, not yours. if someone suggested anyone not wearing top of the line full leather should be in the same boat wouldnt go over that big.
Sevulturus wrote:Ummm, I'm not sure, but I think he suggested it for people who aren't wearing helmets, which is to say, people who don't care enough about their own health to make sure their head doesn't split like a melon on contact.
I actually agree with that, if you aren't willing to take such a simple precaution against an accident you don't deserve treatment. Of course I think that anyone who doesn't wear a seatbelt doesn't deserve treatment either. I'm an equal opportunity Darwinist.
You have the right to not wear a helmet, this is fine with me. But, BUT you do not have the right to say I have to PAY for it if YOU get hurt through YOUR own negligence.
PS, I agree, no seatbelt = no healthcare. Kids under 18 (age of adulthood) are required to wear helmets on bikes, convertable is your risk to take.
I do not want to pay for someone else not taking care of themselves. If you are willing to take the risk, you should pay out for what you do and what happens. NOT ME.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
