Any disadvantage to wearing a back protector OVER a jacket?
I bought a back protector because the foam pads on both my jackets seem pretty flimsy. With the original pad removed, I can wear the back protector either under or over my textile jacket, but my leather jacket fits pretty closely (as it should), so I can only wear the back protector over the jacket. Are they generally designed to be worn either way?

Re: Any disadvantage to wearing a back protector OVER a jack
As I understand it, these back protectors are designed to cushion the impact of an accident and help prevent injury to the spine. They are not designed to hold together in the event of a slide down hard pavement, though, so I would think it best if you kept it underneath the jacket.

Gummi's right they're not designed to slide too much. But I can vouch that the nice ones do hold together alright in slides. I've seen a few that were worn alone by guys and they seemed to do alright at up to 60 or so.

Are we worried about protection... or fashion?

Hmmm, didn't really think of that at all, but if there's a "fashionably acceptable" way to wear a back protector, I'm all ears. If I do decide to wear it outside my jackets, I'm planning to totally dork it up anyway with SOLAS tape, to replace my reflective vest, since it's a hard-armor style back protector.

Jackets always belong over the riding protector.

Re: Any disadvantage to wearing a back protector OVER a jacket?
Back protectors are generally designed to be versatile and can be worn either under or over your jacket, depending on your preference and the jacket's design. The primary goal is to enhance safety and protect your spine in case of impact.
Wearing the back protector under the jacket provides a sleek and integrated look while still offering protection. On the other hand, wearing it over the jacket allows for convenience and flexibility, especially if your jacket fits snugly.
It's essential to check the specific design and features of your back protector, as some may have adjustable straps or a modular design that accommodates both wearing options. Additionally, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for proper usage and ensure a secure fit for optimal protection.
If you have concerns or questions about the compatibility of your back protector with different jackets, consider reaching out to the manufacturer or consulting with a professional in a motorcycle gear store for personalized advice.

Re: Any disadvantage to wearing a back protector OVER a jacket?
As above my back protector is built into a mesh jacket along with the shoulder pads and sleeves and elbow protection. That type is no good for over a jacket , so it is design dependent. I see nothing wrong with over the jacket if it was designed to do so.

Yes, most back protectors are made to be worn under or over your jacket. However, there are some important things to keep in mind based on which way you wear it.
