TMW Biker's Dictionary -- Add a biker word to it.

#1 Unread post by totalmotorcycle »

Many of you know that we have a very large Biker's Dictionary online:
http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/dictiona ... -index.htm

It is always growing as new biker words/terms are added, but I thought this would be a great place to discuss or add any terms that you (don't) see listed in the Total Motorcycle Biker's Dictionary.

So feel free to add or discuss any words you see it in here. New words/terms require a good defination to be considered.

Enjoy,

Mike.

any of you guys ever heard of rippin' it up? lol, i hear/use it all the time, and its not in there! i'll try and approximate an entry:

Rippin' it Up (1):When a biker pulls away hard and fast from a stand-still and leaves behind a patch/line of rubber

(2): A term used to describe generally fast, skillful and/or aggressive riding.
Go fast on something not meant for it. Then you'll understand the true meaning of speed.

How about a ''Hardley'', as in a slang name for a Harley, in the sense that the speaker thinks of them as nothing more than an over-glorified chromey show-off piece rather than a real bike. Dont get me wrong, i rekon Harleys are awesome, hell, i wouldnt say no to owning one! But this term just doesnt seem to be in there...

I thought "flogging it" was something you did at fifteen while locked in the bathroom with your Mom's latest issue of Glamour or Vogue.

And, I thought "Hardly" was supposed to be coupled with "Ableson".

"Hardly Ableson"

Here's another one. BMW's big or should I say huge touring bike is the K 1200 LT. BMW riders often say the LT stands for Light Truck. I have also heard the LT referred to as a RV.

What about "Thumper"? I have often heard that term used in describing a single cylinder bike like mine.

Pillion isn't listed either.
2 chiefly British : a motorcycle or bicycle saddle for a passenger
I often hear Pillion just used to refer to the passenger herself.

Pannier
b : one of a pair of packs or baskets hung over the rear wheel of a vehicle (as a bicycle)
Or a motorcycle of course.

I second the motion to add "flogging it" and "thumper" to the dictionary. Good terms they be.

Also request that "leathers" be added after "leather", as the jacket/gloves/etc (safety gear). I use that one in a different meaning than it's listed as.

How about an entry for 'The Double'; also known as the 'Double T', or 'Double Ton', meaning of course 200 mph.

(Perhaps it should also be called 'The Unholy')
