Sounds like your paying near new prices for used motorcycles. And the fact that it is in atlanta right now would be a bit scary to me. have them put the bike way up on its rear tire and see if any water comes out the tail pipe.

Kawasaki's webpage lists suggested retail of an 05 Ninja 250 at 2999.00. I guess if you're going to spend 3k on a bike I'd go with a new one myself. Check out cycle trader, they have a lot of options for both new and used. I'm sure you can find a good used ninja for less than that. As for the GS, that might be a better deal. Suzuki's suggested retail on an 05 GS500F is 5100. I'd explore that one a bit. Maybe you're getting a end of year deal or something.

Steven,
Fellow Athenian here, there was a bike for sale in Watkinsville that I saw not too long ago (on CraigsList I believe). It was an older bike (80's), but was only about $1k.
I will see if I can find the link and send it to you.
Matt

I hate to urge people away from a 250, a bike they want to learn on... BUT financing a 250cc bike probably isnt the best idea. I know as a learning tool, the ninja 250 is awesome.

Do yourself a huge favor and save up for a few months. Then buy a learner bike with cash. Otherwise, you might be stuck with say a 2 or 3 year note on a bike you could very well outgrow in 2 months.

I know the vets say its funner to go on a slow bike fast, then go on a fast bike slow. There comes a point when you will experience the reality of having an itty-bitty bike with a damn long note.

Think long and hard about financing a 250.

I too am looking for a first bike and I have found it usefull to search the NADA.com & Kelly Blue book to get an estimate value for a bike before going to look at it.

NADA always seems to have a lower value though?? it is also the book used by dealers when you trade one in. so I'd say somewhere between NADA average value and Kelly blue book is the price that should be paid.

Good luck on the search

Water in the tailpipe was a lame attempt at humor. Didn't that place get flooded pretty good? All those vehicles down close to that area got pretty trashed.
