Bowl Gasket Expansion

#1 Unread post by shoey949 »

One of the bowl gaskets on the carb on my '82 nhawk is leaking gas passed it. I took it off and the gasket has expanded. I have tried using all sorts of liquid gasket stuff in addition to the rubber gasket. Is there way to treat the rubber gasket so that it will not expand?

Thanks,
Nate

Nope/ Ime for new gasket. They're not that expensive, and the liguid stuff's just going to clog your sytem over time. Maybe you can get some Cork gaskets (Or make some) that won't expand ...

The gasket probably got carb cleaner on it at some point (this causes rubber to expand)

well, I have previously had all the bowls leak, and all the gaskets were expanded, but I dried them out and put them back in and now just one is leaking. I don't know if the others have expanded cause they aren't leaking and I don't want to take them off if its not leaking.
