one thing i have noticed since i been riding roadies is that you always get a wave from the other riders out there it dont matter where i go or what sort of bike they are on i always get a wave or if ive pulled up for a bit of a breather always stop where i am to see if all is sweet and have a bit of a yarn i have met that many good people like this . btw this is in Oz is it the same in other parts of the world ?

Yah. Biker's wave to each other here too.

It is sort of like a sign of respect also. It's like saying "hey, you're man (or woman) enough to take your chances at doing something you enjoy."

if i had of known i was gonna meet this many good ppl just by riding a roadie i would have gotten 1 along time ago

I am in Texas USA and yes we do wave or do a simulated left hand slap as we go past each other. I have met a few that are afraid to let go of the bars long enough to wave.

Even practicing in a parking lot you get waves from harley riders that cruise by. Though it did help i was on a road king... even if i was wearing a dirtbike helmet.

Waving depends on the time of year...and circumstances

Very early and very late in the season everyone waves to everyone
Middle of the summer, the helmets wave to the helmets. Don't know what the non helmets are doing but they aren't returning my waves.
In thick motorcycle traffic, you are down to waving to your own marquee.

If you are in the middle of absolutely nowhere and have not seen anyone for hours, then you see that lone headlight coming over the horizon, you extend that arm and hand for a little longer.

I wonder if it'd be wise to hold your hand out to let the other person slap it while going by.

I was thinking no, due to the speed you were going, but if you're both going about the same speed, shouldn't the forces more or less canel themselves out and it'd feel just like a normal hand slap?

Anyone ever tried it?

Unless you realize as it gets closer that it's just car with a broken headlight and you get dissapointed. I see this way too often, it bums me out.

The forces would double.

If you're going 45mph and so is the guy coming at you, thats a 90 mph low-five. Ow. But, that's what leather gloves are for...right?

I said a simulated hand slap. I would not try a real slap. I think the hands would both drop to the road.
