I'm not going to make a really long post, but I have one interesting thing to say. No matter who you are or what you do, it is always for a selfish reason. Try to disprove that one. It isn't possible. If someone helps another needy person, he feels better about himself or maybe it helps his self-esteem. That is only one example, but everyone is selfish all the time.

-edit, The reason faith is needed is because everyone has done something wrong and the punishment for "sin" is death. This is where Jesus and faith in Him is so important to the Christian faith.

That's an old one...and it doesn't pan out. Whats more important is your intent. If you intend to do a good act without seeking reward, its unselfish...regardless of whether you feel good about it or not.

That is actually the whole point. It might be consciously or subconsciously, but people do things to better themselves, whether it be immediately or later on in life.

People who don't believe in God, probably don't care one way or the other, actually (If this is over generalized, my apologies to those who don't fit this statement).

I dont believe in God, and I don't believe in abortion. Morality isn't exclusive to your god.

I don't believe in God, and I do believe in a woman's freedom to make up her own mind whether or not to have an abortion. I object to religious totalitarianism which imposes its own values on others and prevents people with a different set of values acting in accordance with their own light. There might be an argument to be had about whether certain constraints need to be put on that freedom, but that argument is for society as a whole to have. It does not belong to one narrow religious group who give authority to a 2000 year old book written by a certain section of a totally alien culture.

The Christian God (ie. those that claim to be able to interpret the will of the Christian God) is not the sole source of morality and the anti-abortion lobby are not the sole bearers of moral truth.

In more general terms, I see goodwill and moral integrity everywhere, even while the Christian Religion here continues to retreat into the back pews.

Any argument gleamed from an episode of Friends is not a valid one. Feeling good about an action taken is not being selfish, it's called being a good person.
