Yamaha's 1981 XS 400 special II is a great little bike. I have her pretty much tip top, though I'll need to clean off some rust and get the idle adjusted better.
Today I took her on a 50 mile jaunt. First into D.C. to tour around before meeting my girlfriend for lunch. Then off and about on errands. She ran smooth, gave me no problems and started up faster than my other bike does on a warm summer day (today was 37 F). I barely had to touch the button for her to fire up.
I got her on the freeway and although she doesn't have lots of acceleration at 75 mph, she's actually enjoyable at that speed. I wasn't expecting it, I just wanted to see if she'd be able to tackle the interstate since they're everywhere around here.
Not the biggest amount of power, but a very nice easy ride. She'll be perfect for the girl friend to start learning on this weekend.
Got bike number two up and running
