Touring forum?

#1 Unread post by Crovello »

Hi All, I am new to this site. I am looking to plan a trip to NC. Is there a topic on this site on good places to cruise? I have ordered a book ot two on the area but would love to hear input from people in the area.

I will not have riding weather up here in Massachusetts for a few months so planning this trip is the only thing I can do to stay ocupied.

Where is the best place to plan a cruising vacation?

I live in south eastern Massachusetts. I am about 25 minutes from Cape Cod and 30 minutes from Newport RI.

The more I look for places to take a cruising vacation the more I like the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. I just wanted to talk to someone from the area to find out what time of year is best and what publications I can buy to plan my trip.

Route to NC from MA.

I would start out on I 95. But I would get off as soon as posible. I am not sure of the exact rout but I think it is 85 that will skirt me around DC.

I will not be riding my bike there. I will trailer it to a central location and then take one and two day trips from there. My wife asures me that I will never get a weeks worth of her cloths in bags, and since I have taken many vacations with her I guess she is correct.

This is why I need a good game plan. I will stay at one hotel and mostly take one day loops of about 200 miles. I would like to take at least one two day trip and my wife says she can handle that. I have plenty of time to plan this trip since I will not have riding weather here for months.

Welcome to the site.

The blue ridge parkway is breath taking, I've ridden the whole length of it on my road bike and plan to take one of the motorcycles someday this spring. It's definately a good site.

There's a good portion of it in Virginia and I would highly recommend stopping at Luray caverns.

I ordered a book from Amazon and expect delivery this week.
The book I ordered is called ( Motorcycle Adventures in the Southern Appalachians: Asheville Nc, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Nc High Country )
Hopefully this will help me plan my tip.

I need to order another book covering the VA. portion of the blue ridge parkway. This is where I will be starting my trip. I plan to trailer by bike to the VA. NC. border. I know many of you cringe at the thought of trailering but my wife is not going to go otherwise. I myself don't care to spend 14 hours on interstate Highway anyway. Besides this will give me a trailer to park my bike in every night. It will be safe and out of the weather that way.

It hit 50 here yesterday. Spent a couple of hours on my bike. It is nice to get a few rides in during the winter.
