New headlight

#1 Unread post by storysunfolding »

My new to me 85 honda magna v30 has an ugly ugly rectangular headlight. I've thought a bit about replacing it to make the bike look better and be a bit more unique. I was just going to scrounge around for a round light that worked for my bike from somewhere (no idea really, but will eventually look so thoughts here appreciated too). However, at teh DC bike show I saw a custom bike with what looked like two 6 inch oval fog lights mounted as headlights. One a few inches above the other. Do they make lights like that for bikes or was he probably using automotive fog lights? Would something like that be legal? It looked amazing.

You should check yout state's guidelines for DMV inspection of motorcycles. Most will not bother about the shape or numbere of headlights. except that they should have a minimum intensity at a prescribed distance and the reflectors should be approved for dot use.

You can check that the hardware you buy meets manufacturing standards if its stamped accordingly. Then, you need to ask a guy at your friendly neighbourhood cycleshop if he will pass your bike on inspection.

After that nobody should bug you about it, unless you run into a pissed off cop doing 100mph on a country road.
