How does the motorcycle lift work?

I can see the benefit, but how do you use one? does it take both wheels off the ground? Does it fit under the bike and grab the frame or motor? What about all the exhaust pipes under teh bike? Do you have to remove those first? Anyone have a picture handy of their bike on a lift?

why would anybody want one.if you have a center stand it seems like a waste of money.on the other hand if you have a whale without a center stand you might want one.

Wouldn't it make it easier to take the engine on and off the frame? Not that most people would do this or do it often but I have a few bikes that need the frames repainted and that seemed like a good way to go.
