Could bad performance be due to leak in airbox?

The magna's airbox doesn't seal well. At first it wouldn't even start but then I managed to cover most of the bad area with duct tape and she does well.(new airbox on order, not going Red Green on everyone)

The problem is that she revs up a bit at low speed and right around 70 mph she loses throttle response. I can twist it a few inches and nothing.

Could this all be related to the leak in the airbox (3mm crack about 4-5 inches long) or would this be unrelated?
