1980 HONDA CX500 Price

#1 Unread post by Randy95 »

Looking at 80 Honda CX500 custom. Is in excellent shape but is asking $1600 for bike. KBB list at $800. I know KBB is not a cast in stone price. But is double the price typical of this type of bike?

Not looking for a long term bike, just something to learn on.

Seems a bit high, but depends on the mileage and condition.

Didnt think about posting miles.......

10,983 on OD
Look in really nice shape. Couple of very minor spots. Has been kept in garage and really looks well taken care of.

What about tire age and condition? I wouldn't drop $1600 on it unless it didn't need a darn thing.

Seems like this might be a common price for the area. http://adcache.cycletrader.com/5/9/7/83 ... ch hassle.

1000 max unless its showroom perfect, 10,000 miles likely indicates a good case of barn disease (10,000 miles is barely broken in for a CX 100,000 is common for this bike).

I have an 80 CX500 custom and its in good shape (not perfect but good) I paid a lot less than 1600.

offer $800 and see if they bite, try not to go over 1000.

The CX is a very reliable bike and can be an excellent bike to learn on (my CX is my first bike), its quite comfortable and easy to ride. The power output is comparable to a ninja 500 but the CX is heavier and has shaft drive so its a bit slower. It will still do 80mph on the highway with little trouble

The 10,000 miles could also be that the odometer rolled over. As mentioned, 100,000+ is typical for these bikes.

I wouldnt buy it for that $$.

Around DC it's hard to get anything running for under a grand. Try and haggle him down, make sure all the rubber looks good (not just tires but intakes and hoses- those go with age and lack of use). Try to get him low. I wouldn't buy it for over 1100
