Are you certain the rear brake isn't damaged or warped?

Try removing the brake caliper assembly and see if the problem subsides. If the rotor is warped it will cause the "hard/easy/hard" condition you described.

Well the only way the rear wheel could become damaged without riding the bike or dropping it is if your spokes were seriously out of whack (happened to me on a mountain bike once). This is so unlikely that I wouldn't even entertain the possibility. Are you sure the bike suffered no damage or impacts? Is the rear axle loose?

bike has never been wrecked and spokes are fine. could the bearings cause that because when i took the wheel off the bearings fell out.
