1995 Yamaha V-Max Dyno Pulls with Nitrous

#1 Unread post by fyi »

Well, we ran the machine on the chassis dyno on Monday and the results were interesting.. The bike is stone-stock and has 35,000 miles on the clock and it pulled 115 RWHP/79 RWTQ naturally aspirated- the best average of 3 pulls.

After we changed the sparkplugs and switched the engine oil to 15w/40synthetic Redline oil, it picked up to 118 RWHP/81 RWTQ naturally aspirated- the best average of 3 pulls.

We turned the choke on slightly to richen it up for the next run and fogged the airbox with nitrous at the air-intake snorkels and it pulled 140 RWHP/91 RWTQ!

It *loved* it!!!

Now I just need to configure some kind of system I can adapt n20 to this bike and I'll post pictures/dyno charts when I can for those interested... :)

145 at the crank. Manufacturers never give the power to the wheels (as is measured from a dyno).

Correct. :scooter:

I've experimented around a bit more with the dry-shot of n20 on this thing and have been able to richen-it up pretty easily using the choke circuit of the carbs. I've machined a detent stop for the choke lever so that when I want n20 use, all I have to do is reach down and flip the choke lever down until it stops at the detent position I pre-selected, for the correct amount of enrichment. It only takes a *very* small amount of choke to richen the AFR a *bunch* and so far, it's been quite effective/repeatable...

Once I get this thing completely sorted out and can obtain repeatable results pull after pull, I'll post what i know and how it works. :)
