Forgive me. Virago 250 vs. Rebel 250.

Well, for one, Hyosung is a korean company. Their bikes really are quite good. They built engines and bikes for Suzuki under contract for some years, and they have 650 sport bikes and a 650 cruiser now too (which both use the same 650cc V-twin engine). The overall quality is very good, and you get a lot for the price.

If I was to get another 250, I wouldn't hesitate in getting another Hyosung.

There's a reason those bikes are found in MSF courses a lot. They're bullet proof, nearly indestructable, and easy to ride. Not a bad bike for a daily ride, assuming you avoid any high-speed roads.

When I hit high speed roads, I go faster... I don't know about Geoff.

My 250 would go to 80mph without trouble, but there wouldn't be any power to pass anyone after that. Since I don't know of many roads with 80mph speed limits, I think you would be ok.

Cruising at 65mph is easy on a 250cc bike... and it still has decent passing power at that speed, but if everyone is going 80+, I'd stay in the right lane.

If that is a concern for you, you might consider the Kawasaki Vulcan 500. Same engine as the ninja 500, and has more than enough power for excessive highway speeds. However, for 99% of the driving I did, my GV250 had plenty of power. That includes a 150 mile ride on the highway doing 65-70mph.

That's basically what I'm talking about there. I've personally been in situations where 65 get's you tailgated and smushed. But if you're lucky enough to live in areas where the interstates aren't THAT bad, then go for it!

I would just be riding it around town. i rarely break 50. I just realized that on a scooter I still get tossed from side to side when a car passed. On a highway it would be the same. And dang if your avatar doesn't freak me out.

As someone who rides a Honda Reflex scooter as well as a couple of standard motorcycles (Triumph Bonneville, Suzuki Marauder), I'm going to say you can get tossed around on any bike, given the right wind conditions or getting passed by the right vehicle. With experience you learn to deal with it: don't tighten up and fight the bike, keep your upper body loose and let the bike do whatever wiggling underneath you it has to do. If the wind is hitting from one direction, lean into it, but vehicle buffet feels like it's coming from all directions at once. Some bikes are less affected than others, but the principle for dealing with it is the same.

On lower cc bikes you just learn to ride differently. You realize you have to build momentum when your at higher speeds and act accordingly. Braking becomes your number one defense in emergency situations and you learn to manuver with greater skill in quick stops (or slowdowns). It all evens out. If you watch what your doing you'll be fine.
