First motorcycle accident

What kind of gear were you wearing?

Glad you're doing ok. I'll second (third, fourth, fifth, whatever number it's up to) the response to go see a doctor and get checked thoroughly. Better to be safe than sorry. Especially when it'll be his insurance footing the bill. Don't wait a couple days either. Go tomorrow. With insurance companies, it's "first come first served".

To everyone who about the assumption thing:

I completely agree, I kept going it in my head afterward to see what I did wrong, and I came to the conclusion that I was in a hurry, so I got a little bit careless. Normally I go through all the steps to making sure I'm safe, and I actually did it this time too, except that I assumed (which is aways a no-no) he knew I was there. Luckily I did do the step about covering the brake. I already had my hand on it when I saw I need to stop, so I was able to use both brakes quickly, which I'm sure was very, very important in me not getting hurt too bad.

Oh, and I may go to the doctor tomorrow, to get an x-ray done of my ankle to make sure nothing is broken or anything.

hope you feel better. i hate that that happened. was the guy who hit you at least nice about it? or did he act liek it was your fault?

He was very nice and helpful up until the cop cited him, then he got pissed and sped off. But, there was another guy there who saw what happened from a parking lot, and came over, and helped as much as he could. At first I was a little shook up, and kinda just laid on the side of the road, and he made sure I was ok and everything. Nice guy, I wish I had got his name or something, so I could take him out and buy him dinner or something.

What kind of gear were you wearing?

Full face AFX helmet, leather jacket, gloves (which are actually ment for bicyclists, but work well for me), jeans, and leather work boots. I'm glad I wore all the gear, because I would have probably have some pretty bad cuts and maybe a little road rash without it. I actually got a tad bit of road rash on my left arm, and that was through the leather jacket.

I know everyone has said this already, but remember... cage drivers are idiots.
To them you don't exist until you come flying through their windshield.

Exactly. It was interesting, after the accident the guy who hit me (he was trying a newer model f-150) said he was thinking about getting a bike soon, and that he was always careful to watch out for bikers. And I find it kind of ironic, that I got my "BIKER FRIENDLY" stickers in the mail on the same day I get in a motorcycle accident, lol.

Dude, I'm glad your O.k. and I hope your injuries aren't bad enough to require a cast. Sounds like your foot took most of the damage so i guess if you decide to keep riding you should get armored pants or just knee and shin guards from Icon and 6" steel toe boots. And maybe some back protection.

I just heard a news story here in NYC about someone rear ending a motorcyclist on a bridge and he was thrown into the river and they found his body. No other info.

This all made me think back to when I had my bike flipped when a drunk driver hit me and the bike was launched into the curb while i hit the ground and rolled for a bit. No injuries was what amazed the EMT but I was forced to undergo observation.

I'll pass some info that people who know I ride give me: Keep a leveled head and you'll be fine.

Yeah, the EMTs kept asking me if I was sure I didn't want to go to the hospital, but I wasn't hurt to bad, just a possible sprained ankle, and some bruises. The only damage to the guys truck was a bent and broken grill.

So glad to hear you're alright man and please go to the doctor. Keep the receipt or something to that cause so you can fax a copy/give a copy to his insurance company so they will cover the cost. If you have health insurance they will probably have to talk to them too. Be ready. ^^.
