We don't have that here. We pay the taxes as soon as we apply for title on any vehicle.
Zulu, check your local/state laws first. I would be pissed off if the gov tried to make me pay taxes more than once for something I bought.

Around here the week between christmas and new years is the absolute best time to get a new car. Dealers have to pay a tax on every car on their lot. Some manage to drive them all to a nearby parking lot to avoid this (not kidding) and they give you a discount a bit bigger than the tax itself. Maybe it's the same on bikes, I don't know.

That's a really good point. Unfortunately, I probably have to pray for no snow on the ground. I wish I was back in Alabama.
I think the best time to but is when you have the $$$ to do it and you are calm and rational. Don't buy on impulse and don't be afraid to walk out the door either. The worst thing you can do is walk in and say I gotta buy a bike today. You posess the power to say yes or no to any deal. But what ever you do, after you buy, don't look back. Don't worry if you got a great deal or if you got hosed or whatever. That's past history so just move forward and ride like ya stole it!
