A picture is worth a thousand words. After you take size into consideration you have to address culture, and how our system of doing business is based on the idea that people are readily mobile as individuals.
IF gas was more expensive in USA, causing the population & business to try & use less, then maybe the US government would rethink it's foreign policy regarding operations/conflicts/wars in oil rich nations!
Until we find alternatives to fossil fuels, I highly doubt this will happen regardless of how much we cut back.
I would be interested in the professor's opinion on that point.

I'm interested in how he framed it. I have made similar claims in the past.

I don't want to derail the post but I must put in one point then I'll stop.

You mean like the NATO European lead war in Libya?

I'll stop now.

Oh you mean the one where the same French government fired the first shots from the international coalition and were the strongest supporters of it, just a few years after accusing the US of going after Iraq just for it's oil (which actually increased our prices here in the States)???

Or NATO as in a mostly European coalition that Libya ships 85% of it's oil to (5% goes to the US, and 10% to China)???

Yup, an little Stevie Harpo has gone and wrap himself up in the flag and extended the Canadian mission.......at least he is still going KA-NA-DAH, KA-NA-DAH instead of U-S-A, U-S-A. But for how long is anybodies guess, that s od will turn us into the 51st State at the drop of a hat if given half a chance.
Always ask why.

I've always thought we should turn America's hat into a few new states.

Absolutely, there is no way a horrible (government-wise) country like Saudi Arabia would be an "ally" of the US. The US being blessed with it immense natural resources produces 10% of the world's oil. The problem is we use a mind boggling 25% of the world's production!

In the town where I live (Maribor, Slovenia), I see about as many scooters as motorcycles. Most of the scooters appear to be owned by high school students, and they ride them year-round, unlike the motorcyclists who put their bikes away during winter. I see as many girls riding scooters as boys.

In Trieste, Italy, a short drive from here, scooters vastly outnumber motorcycles.

$5 gas! higher is Iran launches their nukes. I can take my scooter to the local building supplies store and haul home 3 bags of concrete, and i can take it to the food store and haul 7 bags plus a case of soda home, plus i can hold a cup of coffee with my left hand and drink while I ride cause i don't have to worry about a clutch lever, plus I can exceed any speed limit and can out-accelerate you from a stop light cause as you slow down to shift gears I am still accelerating,,,, so go ahead and keep cutting down the scooters saying they are a fad for young boys and girls and at the same time the die hard Harley guys are visiting the scooter showrooms.
My Tmax is as valuable as gold! EVERYBODY wants one!

Karma! for years I have been harrasssed and made fun of for riding a scooter,, now i have the last laugh HA HA HA HA!

I know you guys want a scooter but are afraid to admit it,, I call it "weak minded"
