Changing jobs is the least worrying part of the whole deal. I am looking forward to that end of it, it's gonna be alot easier on me than where I am now. They have been changing the company and how they operate for years now, bit by bit. But the last year or so they have really been going to town and it's a completely different entity now. And they have been piling more and more corporate garbage on my plate, in addition to the actual 'make this thing run' part of the job. Which is one thing, but I contract to the oil company, so now I'm doing my job, the paperwork for my employer and maintaining a service truck... plus... lot more paperwork, job scope planning, supervising jobs, comities, asskissing for the corporation.... all without a cent more for me. In fact I am losing an extra 5-6 hours of my day, everyday, to get all this extra stuff done. And subject to all the internal politics and 'look at how good I am'-to-the-boss pandering that large companies have, but without any control or say in them. Too many idiots(cause most of the guys there are complete morons) with access and authority to my azz, and no power to cover said azz. I like the work, but hate the job. And the job is becoming a monster I have no control over, and the good work hasn't changed, I just have less time to get it done in addition to all the rest of the garbage on my plate now....... gggrrr, I get pizzed just thinking about it....
And I'm tired of living with 2 paved roads in or out of town...... the whole place is layed out in a grid for hundreds of miles, there's nothing for the roads to go around, so they are straight and flat and they may be great for driving the hell away from here on, but they suck for riding. And Red Deer is a nice little city in a nice little area, but with all the handy things that go along with a city. Like more than 1 store and the variety that goes with it, 24 hr gas stations, entertainment, things like that. And almost 3 hrs closer to the mountains....

Sign me up, Baby!
The new job is actually in Stettler, but there is
nothing available there for housing, unless you got $500,000+ to spend. So I'll commute, giving the exact location I live a little room for play. And I'll be able to ride to work for the first time in 20 years! Too cool...
Right now, I just want to rent a place, and find a 'real' house later. So that don't make finding a place any easier, but it has to be right now. I just got my financial chit back to even after my divorce, and changing jobs means no mortgage for me for a year or 2. Luckily, my wife is pretty good at hunting up residences, cause I'm not. And any help from Owen or the rest of you finding a place would not be un-appreciated.
Sylvan is certainly within the realm of possibility, but the farther east, the better, just to cut down driving time to work. But we are flexible.
I am looking forward to this, after it's all done, the job will be enjoyable and the money will be the about same to start, then better and better, so I'm really looking forward to that part. And working Mon-Fri will be weird, but I think I remember how to do it. No more 10 or 25 day shifts.... off work at 4:30 or else making overtime... and getting paid for that overtime....benifits.... just like a real person..... yeehaw!
And it's a much nicer area to live than this friggin' desert, with better access to the rest of the world. Owen is close by, so I'll have a buddy to ride with once-n-while, I can make the odd TMW Pub night, much nicer parks and lakes close-by..... did I mention the mountains??? It's gonna be nice......
