Your car's exhaust stinks.

#1 Unread post by totalmotorcycle »

Ok, call me weird or overworked, but ever find yourself on your bike, pull up behind a car at a stop light and want to back peddle your motorcycle because their exhaust stinks that bad?

Honda might be able to build a good reliable car, but can't you make the exhaust smell any better? Or the blue smoke belching truck or the beater with black smoke? Or the surprise car that only produces Mount Saint Helens when it accelerates away from you. Maybe I'm crazy but I do appreciate a car that is well maintained and doesn't coat me in exhaust and make me caugh and hack as I try to ride away from it.

I'd like to somehow tell their drivers that their car/truck stinks and maybe they should be enjoying the stench as I am minding my own business behind them.

Yes, cars stink in more than 1 way.

Mike.

That's why we need more biodiesel cars!

The BD made from waste french fry oil smells like french fries... most people like the smell. Though it may contribute to the Growing Americans trend.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

CNF2002, it was your blog that inspired me to think and write that. :D

Ummm, deep-fry. :D

You know what I miss, I miss going down to the good ol' USA (a short drive south) and going to a 7-11, or a gas station or a supermarket and they have those super-death-from-fat deep fried x2 chicken parts, cheese, mojos, hot peppers, etc. Man, you guys know how to live (and die) on that food! :D We don't have anything like that up here. haha

Oh and Rolling Rock. Yumm! Ok, it's not the best beer, but I can't get it in Canada and that just makes it more "wantable"..haha

Back in the olden days, I thought the newer cars that burned unleaded and had a catalytic converter really stunk. Nowadays, a modern car that has a good functioning engine computer and FI system doesn't seem to smell at all.

On the other hand, those old 70s and 60s cars that had "normal" smelling exhaust are now quite obvious to me. If there's an older car four or five cars up ahead, I'll smell it before I see it. They put out about 9 times the CO and hydrocarbons that a modern car does. The smell of partially burned gas in the exhaust is something that you don't smell much anymore.

I'm just glad they got rid of the diesel busses in my town. They had a huge exhaust diffuser in the back, just above the bumper. If you were behind one at a light, you'd get completely engulfed in a black smelly cloud when the bus took off.

You should come up to Red Deer sometime Mike and check out one of the 7/11's here. they've got all the good crispy chicken, potato wedges and all that other good stuff.

The Burnt Lake Fas Gas also has a full counter of deep fried goodness, as does the Husky station in Drumheller.

mmmmm.......sounds like a great reason for a road trip to me.

Yeah when I bought my 2004 4Runner the exhaust smelled really awful. You would accelerate up a hill and if you stopped at a light, the smell of rotten eggs would fill the cabin. It was embarassing to have to explain it to friends or coworkers (always blamed it on the new guy). Well luckily they had a TSB and Toyota replaced the CATs and reflashed the ECUs. Definitely helped the problem. Slightly still there, but no where near the stench it was before.

Though it was kind of amusing to rev the engine on a tailgater and watch them back off

they have stuff like that for cars too. Not legal for road use though.
