06 Honda Shadow Spirit Ignition Issue (any help is awesome)

#1 Unread post by MAKER »

I drove my bike home from the dealership, put 4 miles on it, and garaged it.

I went to start it tonight (3.5 days later) and the engine won't turn over.
It chugs a sec, then i hear a clicking (starter?), and nothing. The lights, etc, work fine.

Could this just be that my battery wasn't fully charged before delivery?
Should I buy a charger and charge it, or just call the dealership and freak out?

Thanks, sorry for the n00b question. ;)

If it's a new bike, call the dealership and freak out. My V-Star did the same thing, and it turned out to be a loose positive battery cable at the battery. Turns out the jerk [ me ] who put the battery in didn't tighten the cable properly. Could be a low battery too.

The clicking is usually the fuel pump

Theres a few things to check first. on the right side of the handlebars, there should be a kill switch, may sure its in the run position

Next make sure you haven't left it in gear. If its in gear, and the side stand is down, theres normally a microswitch that stops you starting it... (this is a good thing, its better to be on a bike when it starts moving, rather than stood next to it  )

After checking the obvious then start on the mechanicals...

If the battery was low, your headlights would be dim, so i suspect thats not it, but try anyway.

there's definatly a kill switch on the right side of the 06 spirit? i haven't come to that part in the manual maybe? but i don't think it would start to turn over and then stop and click if it was the kill switch? would it? i'm going to go call those bums now.

thanks!

Ehh, I'm gonna pick up a tender from them tonight and see if it's the battery. You can damn well bet I'm gonna make them give it to me.
If it's not that, they will come and pick it up on the weekend for me.

This is baloney.
