GALVESTON — The Lone Star Motorcycle Rally is roaring into Galveston for the weekend.
Organizers expect 250,000 to 300,000 motorcycle enthusiasts and 400 vendors to attend this year’s four-day event.
To accommodate the event’s new rally site, an additional five blocks of Seawall Boulevard are being closed, from 20th to 25th streets.
In downtown, 21st through 24th streets between Mechanic Street and Harborside Drive have been closed.
The Strand is accommodating one-way traffic only.
Finally, Mechanic Street will be open to motorcycle parking only today.
Additions to the rally this year include the use of Fort Travis Park campground on Bolivar Peninsula, where 88 acres have been prepared for campgrounds and an entertainment venue has been created.
Lighthouse parking will provide a shuttle service between the campground and the rally site.
Activities will include several live music performances by artists such as Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad at 8 p.m. today and Brian Howe and Bad Company and John Kay and Steppenwolf at 8 p.m. Saturday at the campground. Radio personality Outlaw Dave from Rock 103.7 will also appear there today.
Organizers plan to have several other bands perform on two stages on Galveston Island, one in Saengerfest Park, at 22nd Street and The Strand, and another on 23rd Street and Seawall Boulevard.
