Motorcyclists pitch in for Red Cross

The way Frank Davis sees it, guys and gals with motorcycles will ride no matter what.

So Davis thinks they might as well support a great cause while they're doing what they would do anyway.

Beginning Saturday and continuing through the summer, Davis is planning motorcycle activities with proceeds from entry and registration fees directly benefitting the Casper office of the American Red Cross.

Saturday, the second annual Smoke n' Show burnout and bike show takes place at Casper Mountain Motorsports, 3401 CY Ave., with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the American Red Cross. The bike show starts at 11 a.m., and the burnout is at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $25 for either; $35 for both. Burnout categories are metric, sport and Harley. The bike show includes best of show and ugliest of show.

Davis said he is "personally challenging" anyone to burn out. Freestyle jumping will also take place in the parking lot of the store.

On Friday and Saturday, June 3-4, Davis hopes bikers will welcome summer with a statewide rally again benefitting the Red Cross.

Late registration, registration pickup and dinner begins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at Casper Mountain Motorsports. Bullwhip Catering provides the dinner. After dinner, the group rides to the Casper Events Center for the Wyoming Cavalry and Everett Hawks football game. The first 200 to register get free tickets to the game and a group of cyclists will ride onto the field at halftime, sponsored by Valorie Grutkowski.

On Saturday, breakfast by Johnny J's will be served at First Choice Auto on East Yellowstone Highway and at 9 a.m., the group departs for a jelly bean run through Glenrock, Douglas, Lusk, Guernsey and back to Casper.

"You pick a jelly bean by color at each stop and unlike a card in a poker hand, you have no idea what it's worth until the end," Davis said. "People are getting tired of poker runs so this is a little something different."

Also different will be live radio broadcasts throughout the entire day on all Mount Rushmore Broadcasting stations with deejay Rood Dog riding and filing live reports at each stop.

"It's the first-ever, all-day remote they've done," Davis said.

Registration for the event includes dinner Friday and Saturday, breakfast Saturday, a T-shirt from T-shirts Etc., and tickets to the Cavs game to the first 200. Pre-registration is underway now at a cost of $45 per person or $55 per couple. After May 21, the cost increases to $60 per person.

Dinner on Saturday begins at 6 p.m., at the Holiday Inn on the River and music by SAME Music starts at 7 p.m.

Prizes and awards will be given out at the dinner and dance on Saturday.

Registration for the June weekend can take place any time at Casper Mountain Motorsports.

A third effort by Davis for the American Red Cross was just firmed up this week.

He's giving away a Suzuki C50 Boulevard in a raffle with the drawing July 4 at halftime of the Cavs game.

He needs to sell a minimum of 300 raffle tickets at $20 each with a maximum of 500 tickets available. Tickets will be available for the first time at the Cavs game this Saturday and then will be available also at Casper Mountain Motorsports.
