Bike won't start! Help!

Well, I finally got a new battery for my 92 Katana.. but she still won't turnover! I'm desperate for ideas on what I can do.. I'm wondering if maybe the idle is too high or possibly too low.. or something else? Ahhhh, I haven't ridden my baby in over a month and I'm going crazy trying to get it to start!

Any advice, tips, ideas is GREATLY appreciated.

idle speed is only an issue when she will turn over. Check your fuses, and go over all your connections. Make sure the starter solenoid and starter switch is working

Do your lights work? headlight, tail light, turn signals, break light, guages, neutral indicator, that kind of thing? Did you charge the battery out of the box?

All the lights work.. the engine is trying to start, but it won't actually kick. =(

How does push starting work to help start the engine? Should I try that? I assume I'd just roll down the street a bit and try to start it?

Push starting won't help, you do that when the battery is low or dead.

So it's not firing at all? Check for spark. If you have that, check for compression, if you have that, then break open teh carbs and clean them well

The idle was too high.. I JUST GOT IT WORKING!

Hurray! Now to fill her up and get her breaks replaced and an oil change would be nice.

The idle must of been set real high if it didnt even want start.

Mine will start with the throttle pretty far open.....

Are you sure the "idle was high". The choke sets the idle high by design...

Just seems odd..

The choke actually either enriches the fuel or restricts air. Turning the idle up opens the throttle a bit and allows more air into the system. I can see this happening but it would definitely have to be open a bit more than you'd expect it to ever get to naturally
