Trying this forum thing out

#1 Unread post by VI Shadow »

Hi. I thought I would check into this and it looks interesting. I’ve gotten back into riding about three years ago when my dad decided to quit riding and asked if I wanted his bike. After about 20 springs of wishing I had a bike again and travelling on many roads that I thought “man I wish I was doing this on a bike”, it’s great to finally be back on two wheels. I must say, the flow did not come back instantly as I thought but it is definitely back. I live on Vancouver Island so am close to many amazing rides and did a great trip last year to Winthrop then back up to BC and did the Lynton, Pemberton (sea to sky loop) and then back home via the sunshine coast. What a great trip. I am hoping to do something similar this year. None of my friends ride and my wife was an ER nurse so has seen the ugly side of riding and so there's no chance of getting her on the back. So my travels have been solo up to this point.

Hoping to get some ideas on more great trip ideas as well as other tips and info.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Welcome, and let me just say I hate you!!!!!!!! Getting to live and ride on Vancouver Island....colour me sooo jealous.

If you get down to the southern end of the island and had a couple of hours to kill, I can recommend the road to Port Renfrew. Traffic is a bit of dogs until you get past Sooke, and after that its pretty good. Road does have some rather sharp bends in which can bite you on the tail if you hit them to hot and hard. And at the end of the road, there is a great little greasy spoon that serves some of the best burgers and fries to be had in BC.
Always ask why.

Thanks for the tip ceemes. That's a trip I haven't tried yet but have been thinking about it. A co-worker told me about a great book called desinations highways that rates the top motorcylce roads and that one is listed in there. Now we just need to get some summer weather to better enjoy the rides.

Actually, after mentioning it to you, I googled it and found what could be a great days ride out, abet a long days ride out.

Thinking that when I get my bike running properly again, I will make the trip over from Tswwassen to Nanaimo. From there head down to the Nanaimo Lakes Road/S. Forks Road and ride into Port Renfrew from the back going past Nanaimo Lakes, Cowichan Lake, and then into Port Renfrew. Grab a bite to eat there and then head to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal and home. Looks to be a 450 Kilometre trip which would take about 12 hours in total, including ferry travel.
Always ask why.

I too had a 20yr break from riding so I totally know what you mean.

I am an OR nurse so have also seen many injuries associated with motorbikes. Maybe your wife would be more keen if you get her riding too? I don't really enjoy being a pillion much either.

Have fun

LOL! Guilty as charged. :D

I was going to change it to "I think you picked a very friendly one to join" but then I thought does that mean it isn't good?

Hi and welcome!

I'm from Powell River!!! Howdy neighbour!!!

The Circle Route would be amazing on a motorcycle (I've only done it by car)!

Have you planned any rides across the Rockies?
Andrea :sun:
