finding good motorcycle literature

alright, i've read proficient motorcycling, motorcycle maintenence (zimmerman) and sport riding techniques...but i've yet to find a book that gets down to the nitty gritty of how EVERYTHING works....does anyone know of a book out there that is more text book style and has diagrams and describes in detail things like the starter system, electrical system, valves, transmissions, etc....i really want to understand everything that goes on from thorttle twist to rear wheel spin...any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks!

I've been thru this book a few times and noticed one or two errors, but nothing major. Decent book most of the mistakes were in the electrical section.

You can also check out the Haynes Manual Techbooks - They have a range of books available for different systems of the bike.

I registered to reply to your topic, but reading more carefully you're looking for something even more basic than this book:
Sportbike Performance Handbook (Amazon.com) Don't let the name fool you, this book has much to offer those you want to know more about how engines, transmissions, brakes, tires, etc. work with a specific focus on Sportbikes. I don't imagine myself tuning a race ready sportbike anytime soon, but i did greatly benefit from the general knowledge contained in this book. I'm just getting into motorcycles, while cars I've always enjoyed, but this book taught me about both! Check it out if you want a start to a better understanding of any internal combustion vehicle.
