Bought a new bike the other day(insurance questions)
Hey all, Im looking for some alternative options for insurance. I just purchased an 06 suzuki vstrom dl650 and ive been using progressive for the last year with my 97 marauder. progressive wants 900-1000 bucks for full coverage(basically collision adds the most to it). yikes. im 35 with a clean license no less. bikeline wants 1052, gmac basically uses progressive anyhow. geico wants 1500. aig................9 grand?? i swear this rep told me that. he was saying since its classified as a sport bike its a little on the expensive side. A LITTLE????
Im gonna try to locate a yellow pages but im not against going with a company i havent heard of either. i was just curious if anyone knew what other good choices/websites/companies are out there for someone like myself. thanks in advance
p.s. i havent taken the msf although i better get around to it as it would help save on insurance as well as helping in other areas

Don't forget the traditional "cage" insurance agencies either (State Farm, Allstate, etc). I've only priced Progressive personnally. Stopped there when they only quoted me $210'ish on a brand new Guzzi Nevada. That included additional coverage for add-ons like windshield, bags, etc. Pennsylvania seems to have some pretty low rates for bikes judging by the other prices I've seen quoted from time to time.
That's a very good point about auto insurance co's and bikes. I been with my cage insurance company for 30 years, yes 30 years and they do not do bikes. What a shame, my rates for the cage for full coverage is dirt cheep to. But a guy I know can get his with his auto and said prices are great. So yes check out the auto co's also.

It's a good idea to shop around for insurance every year, or every other year. Home, auto, bike, whatever. What matters is not who you have been with the longest, but what you claim history is. Go with who you feel most comfortable with, of course, but realize that someone else may be able to save you some money if you just ask around.
