I would be more than happy to donate to the site...

#1 Unread post by MrGromit »

If doing so would turn off those f'ing popup ads that I will never click on anyway.

In the mean time, I have to work my way up to hitting the site. Yes, they "pee" me off that much. And the new f'ing floating-animated ones that you can't close or read around really take the cake.

I am a paid member of several other sites where donating prevents ads. Why can't TMW do the same? I promise you that you won't get a dime from me clicking on the ads and you likely will get a donation if you can promise I won't have to see another one on the site.

And if paying *does* turn them off, then please forgive my rant and realize you need to advertise this a bit better on the "site supporter" page.

Yes, I realize some browsers have plugins that disable them, but as I'm usually using a company-issued laptop that doesn't allow installations, I'm stuck. And I'm getting fed up. And my money says I'm not alone.

Has it been brought up as to why the donators don't get a cookie that keeps the popups away?

If it's a logistical thing then there's a workaround.

Can I suggest a poll in another forum asking if people would be willing to donate, say, $10 to get rid of them for a year?

If you have cookies enabled you only get two pop ups per visit.

This is probably the biggest motorcycle forum I've come across and it's more than entertaining enough if not informative to be willing to close two pop ups a day

As storysunfolding mentioned, you should only be getting 2 popunders a day, no more. If you are getting more, it's either a corupt cookie problem on your computer or they are not coming from TMW or you have a virus/malware on your computer.

I wish it was as easy as being able to "turn them off" for supporters. While the software does not allow me to do that (at all), I do the next best thing and eliminate popunders (first, then other types of ads next) to cover the amount a member donated to offset the loss in ads for everyone on the site. So far I've turned off about 200 popunders/ups this year alone. If I could get $10 from each member a year, not only would there be NO POPUPS or POP UNDERS but all annoying ads would be gone and TMW would be very close to ad free. A day I'm looking forward to myself. :D

Unfortunely I only get a handful of site supporters/donations a month and can only do so much with up to $50. But do note that I highly appreciate every $1 that someone donates and am thankful to them for that. :D
