ninja79, that's daft!
ninja79 wrote:If there was any doubt that totalmotorcycle is more interested in making a quick buck on adware than in providing a forum for motorcycle enthusiasts, it has disappeared now.
Do you work for nothing?

Do you pay the expenses so others can enjoy themselves?

ninja79, you come across as spoilt. Why don't you do your part and click on some of those adverts and help generate some operating capital for Mike. I do and it takes 20 or 30 seconds for the 3 ads I get. That's nothing for the hours of enjoyment to be had here.

Mike (TotalMotorcycle), many thanks for the BEST motorcycle forum and website on the net.

So, you discovered an annoying ad provided by TMW's ad service, and the administrator promptly removed the ad from the website.

You have not paid a dime to TMW for the bandwidth you use.

So the conclusion you draw is that TMW exists exclusively to make money on adware?

Huh.

ninja-

The ads on the site itself are fairly unobtrussive. If it's annoying, let mike know and he'll get rid of it. With cookies enabled you get three popups a day that take a good 5 second to close. That's all that pays for this site nad mike's livelihood. What's wrong with that?

As more people donate, mike is willing to take off ads. However, compare the amount of members 10,000+ to the amount of site supporters. That's alot of bandwidth for viewing that our members don't have to pay for but in return mike asks us to accept ads.

A popup blocker actually prevents mike from receiving that revenue as it doesn't count as a view. Views pay so much, clicks pay a bit more and an actual conversion pays the most (someone correct me if I'm wrong). By not contributing and using a popup blocker, you end up being more of a leech than anything else.

I think TMW is worth it. It's not just the forum, mike provides a plethora of information all through the site and changes the site based on what WE want.

Yes, I agree the voice ads were annoying, but Mike took care of them. If something else comes up one day, he'll take care of that too. Is such a dynamic m/c resource really not worth the 5 seconds it takes to close those pop ups every day?

Can we let this rest?

I'm honestly thinking ninja79 is just a trouble maker as he has never PMed, emailed or discussed anything that he felt would improve the community. His posts just seem to be disrespectful to me, the site and the community.

I appreciate all the support from all of you. Viewing the ads (ie NOT blocking them) really helps and yes, I do everything I can to reduce the amount of ads on here. I killed even more popups yesterday and I'm down quite a lot now. Hopefully your starting to notice it. I know a few of you view that ads are an obtrusion to your computer or your life. But if there is a good reasons for ads to be there (ie Total Motorcycle being there for you free) then isn't that a good reason not to block them? Unfortunately I can't eat, live or pay the site's bills for free, thus I depend on the ads, site supporters and visitors. There are so many BAD and useless sites out there on the internet isn't it worth seeing/clicking on a few ads to keep 1 good one up?

I did kill all the audio ads I could find, I even BANNED the ipod ones from ever appearing on the site again. If there are any audio ones left that are bothersome, please, just let me know and I'll take care of them, revenue be dammed, riders/visitors are more important.

Pongo - "Mike (TotalMotorcycle), many thanks for the BEST motorcycle forum and website on the net." Your most welcome for the site and forum.

ninja79 - I moved and locked the thread as you didn't put it in the right forum and I replied with your answer. I also changed the thread name as your name of it was disrespectful to me and the community. If you find this site unrespectable because there are a few popups, or some audio ad I didn't know about (and you didn't tell me was there) that I didn't remove then you know your options. Yes, if you donated, I can kill more popunder for EVERYONE, just think, you'd be supporting motorcycling! ... Yes we do delete threads that are going no where good. It's not my fault that's your threads... maybe there is a connection there? :frusty:

KingRobb - Glad you came to the TMW family. :D No, I make NO money off of Adware. In fact, I sell nothing directly off the site. Sales (money) is not the goal of the site, making you happy and supporting this great sport of riding IS. :D

MotoF150 - "my posts are deleted all the time and I never complain, I think of myself as a guest here, and if the host thinks im outta line they let me know by deleting my post, I try my best to get along with everybody and be kind and consierate but sometimes I lose my cool and later regret what I say and the host saves me and deletes my post, Thank You LionLady and Bluestoocruise, I love you girls!" Coming from you, that's a great thing to read. :D

AZRider - If you see an audio ad that bothers you still, let me know about it as I honestly got rid of those I knew about.

jonnythan - Thanks for the support. As mentioned, I don't make any money on Adware. In fact for those courious the ONLY cookies you'll get from Total Motorcycle is telling your computer NOT to get X amount of ads on TMW when you visit! Imagine, as a webmaster I'm restricting ads (revenue) so you can have a more enjoyable ad-free environment...haha

Bandwidth --- I just had to upgrade the bandwidth to 800 Gigabytes PER month. That's 9600 Gigabytes of bandwidth used per year! Also I had to upgrade the server from a 2 CPU Xenon server to a 8 CPU Xenon server! That's A LOT just for this site. Total Motorcycle is a big site and uses A LOT of resources, and I'm glad to pay for that to provide it and happy that there really are not a lot of ads I have to make you all suffer to make the site 100% free.

Like storysunfolding mentioned... Can we let this topic rest? But that DOESN'T mean you can't come to me with ANY problem or issue, my PM box is ALWAYS open. :D

Thanks so much for all your support and for making Total Motorcycle such a friendly, useful and helpful site to MILLIONS of riders a year!

Screw the welfare of the posters! Mike, as long as our eardrums are protected, I would not really mind to close 3,4,5 or more pop ups just at the beginning of each time we open the TMW website to give you and your webiste more profit.

I concur with this post.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

+1, I just wait for them to open and close them anyway... if you want us/me to click them Mike, just let me/us know and I'm sure a good portion of us would be happy to!

You guys and gals are WONDERFUL, thanks for making me smile REALLY BIG this Saturday afternoon. :D

I'm very appreciative of the support you have all offered. But I will still endevor to lower the popups so you don't have to close them...haha I'm 100% honest in saying it's about YOU, supporting riders and riding first. :D

If you find any ads interesting, please do click on them and see what they have to offer. One of the nice ones to click on as they offer good adverters(hint) is the IntelliTXT ads on the main websitepages: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/welcome.htm

Oh, and I used a few dollars from the donations to purchase 4 cases of No-name Mr. Noodles.. that's 96 packs! LOL.

Have a great weekend all!

Man, we are gonna have to start a "Buy Mike a steak" fund.
Or if you don't swing that way we can start a "Buy Mike some tofu" fund.
Im getting depressed thinking about how much Mr. Noodles he eats.

Seeing other people complain so childishly about the popups made me disable Adblock permanently for this site.

I'm not quite ready to become a subscriber though. Maybe one day ;)
