Anyone still winter riding?

Tomorrow is supposed to be around 48 degrees and sunny - "Scan" has the day off work, so we're definitely going to get in some riding. I don't know who needs it more - us or the bikes! Kids are home from school, so we'll have to split up our time, but at least it's something.

Our biggest deterrent here is not the temperatures (although it can get too cold come January/February), but rather the salt and/or ice on the roads. Still, we can usually get in a good dozen or so rides over the winter season.

I've been riding year round here in NE Ohio for 23 years now. Don't go out if streets are slippery with ice or snow but I do go out in too much salt water most years. My bikes have become rather rusty by the time I've used them up. Around 20F is about the coldest I go out.

I've hit some ice a few times and finally discovered black ice a couple years ago. Never have used electric clothes but have accumulated lots of warm stuff to wear over the years. Temperature determines length of ride or distance between coffee stops.

Expect I'll get out this PM after a couple greatgrandchildren go home, otherwise tomorrow looks good to go and maybe saturday too.

I just picked up a sidecar and an xs850 (hail to the triple) to make winter riding a bit easier. Working on a design to drive the cars wheel too

Otherwise I'm still riding the strom and other bikes around the DC metro area. Gear is waterproof, layers are awesome and Gerbing is my new best friend

I went and rode K-5 to Leavenworth and back this morning. First chance to try out my new rear tire. Still too much moisture on the rode to ride hard.

I'm not alone in NYC. There are many riders still riding despite the low temps. The only thing that stops us are the snow and the risk of ice up to 2 days after snow cleanup. Then there are those smug riders who sport their Piaggio MP3s, Ural Sidecars and the odd conversions I've seen.

You've seen MP3's out on the street? I've seen 'em at the Vespa/Piaggio dealership in Philadelphia, but never actually out on the roads. Wonder how many Piaggio has sold here?

I've seen 3 so far and 1 of them was by a guy who did some kinda work involving italian bike manufacturers. The others were yuppie types. Neat machine, the way they take off is pretty cool and they told me that the button to engaged the stabilizer or whatever wasn't a big deal.

We have had a cold snap here and my new (to me) Kwaki isn't getting enough use. I go out on it every four days or so, but I'm chilled to the bone for a whole day afterwards! I guess this is because I'm an old guy, maybe.

Any of you folks in the cold zones still taking bikes out? I'm spending my time looking at weather forecasts and reading bike mags! LOL

Yea, still riding..we've lost power few times,snow and ice.It's warmed up for christmas over 40,,been couple weeks didn't get over 20.
like I said tho it's time to get the 60w out,mines an 80 cu.in.kicker only w/a pretty hefty cam...plus what helps on slippery situations is no front brake...can't mess up and grab it by accident.hee hee hee

I do most of my riding at night. Its below freezing so the roads are iced over every morning. Sucks.
