I've having the most fustrating time finding a replacement pair of motorcycle gloves.
Seems I'm a L or XL depending on manufacturer and make, but I can't find a pair of gloves that fit right and don't cut off circulation around my thumb or are too big, too small, too heavy in material, etc. I'm just looking for an all leather pair of gloves without the hard kevlar bits.
Anyone have any suggestions?
My wife has a pair of Joe Rocket Highside's that she says I should try out.
I don't go for brands normally; I check everything out on its merits. But the three best pairs of gloves (one winter, one summer and one do-it-all) I have ever had have all been Alpinestars. They were all on the pricey side, but they have all been comfortable, weatherproof and hard-wearing with all the safety-features I like (strap across the front, not too many seams etc.)
Oh, and they looked good!

When the wife says try something, I find it best to "Try Something". At least so I don't have to hear, "I told you so". Other than that I use fingerless in the summer and some insulated shooting gloves I have when it gets colder. They are very flexible and warm. I bought them at Cabela's.

I don't normally shop by brand. But I find a lot of the gloves that I like are made by Olympia. Several times in the past couple of years I would try on all the gloves in a store and end up buying the Olympias.
Olympia gloves - pricey, but I've found the leather quality to be great. Definitely do not go cheap on your gloves! I got one cheap pair of gloves and they were uncomfortable and you can actually feel that the quality of the leather was low.

Like all saftey equipment I go to the guy that has in stock. Your point on L vs XL is the problem. I must try on gloves, helmet , jacket, boots to get a good fit. I would never suggest some go to the local store then buy off the internet. How else will they maintain any stock if people do this?
Anyway, I have bought cheap gloves that felt cheap after a 1/2 hour and a pair of Apline stars that I love. Price was a bit high but for the right fit and being able to feel the protective leather/pads in the product, its worth paying more. I'm sure there are other good mfg's of gloves but try before you buy so its hard to go wrong.
Going to a parts/accessories meet is also a great way to find what you need if your not in a hurry.

Fit is a tricky subject and is too hard to get over the internet. Some manufacturers make small thumbs, some big. Others have longer ring/middle/pointer/pinky fingers than others. Some have cuff adjustments that don't get tight enough, others start too tight. Your best bet is just playing around in the store for awhile till you find one that fits alright. Remember, as you use them they will loosen up- just like a helmet or a set of boots.
