Unless it's a good friend whom I know is also a good rider, I don't even lend people my bike to ride around the block. The same goes both ways; if people offer their bikes to try, I usually refuse; just minimizing the chances of denting both the bike and the friendship.

Ummm I did it in the 90s with pedal bikes... Does that count? Or at least make you feel old?

I would never let any one borrow my bike. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose for the lender. At best if all goes right the borrower will return the bike in fine working order but it work make your relationship better and they will probably want to do it again. So what's in it for you? Don't do it!

I only have a select circle and only under exceptional circumstances. We do swap bikes regularly when go on rides together though, but that is when we are all going to the same place.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S

There are probably only 2 people who I would let ride my bike at all. And I'm not sure I'd be crazy about it happening if I wasn't also on a bike going the same way.

I think it all comes down to trust. Do you trust the person to take care of your motorcycle like you would? Would they repair it if anything happens? Would they let you borrow their bike for the same type of trip?

If so, I would have no problems in lending my motorbike out.

If not, then I would worry while it was out.

Depends. I let Lee Parks borrow my bike once. At the same time after David Hough totaled Lee's bike I decided that just because you are a motorcycle rock star, you aren't immune to mistakes. I did let Keith Code take a spin on my track bike... I like being on his good side.

I let my one friend ride it on rare occasion. However, he's also my mechanic. So he can usually tell me how it's running. Does my cars too. I pay him for the bigger stuff. He recently did tie-rod ends in my jeep. But for small stuff I don't.
