I know there are indeed riders who favor ape hangers on their bikes, but I wonder, wouldn't ape hangers be a negative to handling (turning)? Or is there some advantage to them (other than looks) that I am missing?

This one gets a "cool" from me. Finally, a Victory without all that Arlen Ness swoopy cartoonish crappy styling! Now, if they could get to work on the Cross Country and de-Ness that one, it would be back in my Top 3 list in no time.

Mike, apehangers are purely a styling touch and offer no advantages to handling. If memory serves, I did a writeup on the Harley Cross Bones here on TMW a couple years back and I wasn't impressed with the apehangers on that one, either.

Perhaps it keeps the area under the arms cool?

Other than that thought, I can not think of any advantages for ape hangers.

I vote uncool just for the ape hangers.

I think the price is good for a 2014 big inch cruiser, looks good, not too sure about the apes. Single disc out front doesn't do it for me, I like to stop better than that on a big bike. Nice bike though. I voted cool.

I like the styling of the bike and the flow showing off the fantastic motor and smoothly going back to the rest of the bike. Victory hits all styling points for me. I even dig the mini apes. I'm seeing a lot of aging riders switch to the mini-apes because it helps them hold an upright posture and keeps back aches away. So glad I'm not old. As a taller guy (not freakishly tall like Mike ) I enjoy smaller apes. I have a monster of a friend with real apes and my hands being over my eyes is just... weird. Can't ride like that because my jacket constrains my arms in that position which makes them go to sleep in 20 minutes. Makes me wonder if they sell Ape Hanger jackets for guys that buy these bikes.

Don't let the single disc mislead you into thinking a bike won't stop fast. Single versus double rotors isn't a good indicator of stopping power. The only reason my sportbikes have dual rotors is with the intention that I will repeatedly be going hard and strong on the brakes. Two rotors= more surface area= quicker cooling. The suzuki M-50 has one of the best 60-0 times among cruisers and it's a single disc.
