Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: I think our voters were a little bit confused this week on what to vote on with the 2017 BMW VISION NEXT 100 as it is a far-distant future concept bike; so the results may not be accurate. That said, it was a great discussion on concepts and it made us think what 30-100 years down the road will be like for not only bikes but for us, riders. Are motorcycles still going to be manually "driven"? Is gas around still? Safety gear? Is VR the future of gauges? Concepts allow us to "see" the future, abit a "dreamy, unclear" future, but it allows designers to draw upon those ideas and create the bikes we have coming up. Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: A little old' story: After I left the Canadian ARMY in 1991, I decided to get a motorcycle and live a little. Even then, I was honestly nervous about starting out, I knew no one who rode, didn't drive and my dad was injured in a motorcycle accent long ago. So my first bike was critical choice to the length of my riding career (now in its 26th year). The CB250 is such an important bike, it is one of the best bikes to learn on. Yes, a new rider will outgrow it as it gets passed to the next new rider, but that's a good thing, it means the experienced rider enjoyed riding and is taking the next step. Start too big of a bike and more-often-than-not, it's a very short riding career (fear or injury).

Something to think about next time you see a new rider sporting a starter bike. Let them know they made a great choice and welcome them to the riding family.

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: Like the Bavarian beer purity law of 1516 (Barley, Hops, water, Yeast) sometimes the best product comes from the purest of ingredients. Piaggio seems to have mastered the recipe by offering uniqueness, value, quality and fun. If you haven't tried an Aprilia, MV Agusta, Moto Guzzi or Piaggio, you might be missing out on something very special. Take the time this year to look at one, you might come away pleasantly surprised.

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: This week's bike, the Zero FXS, created some great discussions, not only about the model, but about electric bikes in general. Markdcoco makes some thoughtful comments that "Green" really is more a marketing term than actual "good for the environment". Something I have wondered myself with all the end of life batteries in Hybrid cars. One of the biggest challenges ceemes points out is recharge time... does anyone want to wait at a "gas" station for hours before continuing their day trip?

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: "On the roads it was a white-line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice" Oh wait, that was Mad Max Road Warrior. Interesting that the MGX-21 seems to almost come from that time and the MGX-21 accessory catalog should include linked .50 browning MG's, a spike dropper off the back and extra fuel tank saddlebags! To say the MGX-21 is unique is an understatement. Love it or hate it, you don't want it behind you fitted with MadMax accessories.

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: With cruiser sales slowing and selection dwindling down, it's good to see Indian releasing another new cruiser. H-D could take a page out of the 50's heritage style here. Also the natives are getting restless and want something new in cruisers... can radical design change be near? Remember the 80's cruisers vs the 90's-2000's design?

It's a real slim victory for the Awesome vote. You usually don't see a bike voted Awesome in the low 70's in score. But there you have it.

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: The word unique doesn't go after enough to describe how unique the URAL is. Practical and Impractical. Horribly dated but yet so today's retro. BOHO Chique; Je Ne Sais Quoi (Ok, maybe that's going too far). But what the URAL has, it does it in spades.

Go out and test ride one or jump into someone's URAL sidecar and refuse to get out till they take you around the block. What are you waiting for?!

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: The 1971 Kawasaki Mach III blasts off like a rocket to the top of the Cool Wall! Manufacturers take note: Retro cool is still in. We need more retro's! There is something attractive about simplicity of design/form/function. Back in 1971, bikes were more simple, easy to work on, but they didn't handle that well and the Mach III was probably too fast for it's own good vs today's bikes... but it is amazing how far we have come in 46 years.

Riding modes, ABS, Traction Control, FI, disc brakes, advanced metals, LED lighting, even electric starters we take for granted today. It will be something to see what the 2063 Kawasaki will offer! AI technology? Solar Powered? No exhaust? Plastic composite frame? Will motorcycles be the last vehicles on the road to be manually driven?

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-way: The 2009 Buell Blast was not very popular when it was sold carries over 8 years later to not being popular at all on the Cool Wall. This H-D bruise must be too early to bring it up still. The idea behind the Buell Blast was to get new riders into Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Unfortunately due to low horsepower, high weight and uncompetitive price, it did the opposite and drove them to look at competitors bikes for the next ride.

Unfortunately this week also makes the selling of Buell assets off (including their factory and all the unfinished parts/engines) for "cheap-cheap-cheap". Maybe we will see a new Buell2.0 in the future?
